John Travolta Apologizes to Idina Menzel a.k.a Adele Dazeem [WATCH VIDEO]
The 86th Academy Awards in 2014 was packed with a lot of “trending” stuff. It all started when Ellen DeGeneres, host of the night, asked the A-list stars for a group selfie. Her goal was to get as many retweets as possible. Upon uploading her “epic selfie,” it received 80,000 retweets. In an hour, it already has over a million retweets! The second “trending” moment was when “American Hustle” star and Best Supporting Actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence tripped at the Oscars for the second time. The third one was “Sherlock’s” Benedict Cumberbatch photobombed the Irish band U2 in a group photo. Aside from these trending topics, another one to add to the list is John Travolta’s “trending” moment when he mispronounced Tony Award winner Idina Menzel’s name as “Adele Dazeem.” The crowd burst into laughter upon hearing Travolta’s mispronunciation. John Travolta has already apologized to Idina Menzel a.k.a. “Adele Dazeem.”
Even if Broadway star Idina Menzel appeared a bit taken aback by Travolta’s mistake, she regained her composure immediately and continued to perform “Frozen’s” “Let It Go,” which won as the Best Original Song in the Oscars 2014. However, Menzel’s fans would not let this go, as they created a parody Twitter account, mocking Travolta. According to Social News Daily, it immediately gained 12,000 followers.
To their delight, the fans also posted a Vine video of Travolta, endlessly mispronouncing Menzel’s name. According to Los Angeles Times, Slate even created a widget which allows visitors to “Travoltify” their names in the “Adele Nazeem Name Generator.”
Meanwhile, John Travolta has already apologized to Idina Menzel a.k.a. “Adele Dazeem.” The “Grease” actor sent a statement to E! News, apologizing to Menzel.
“I’ve been beating myself up all day. Then I thought…What would Idina Menzel say? She’d say, ‘Let it go, let it go!’ Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy Frozen took home two Oscars Sunday night!” explained Travolta in the E! News report.
According to an E! News source, Travolta did not have a problem pronouncing Menzel’s name during the rehearsal last Saturday, Mar.1, 2014.
E! News also reported that Menzel did not have hard feelings for Travolta, and she just laughed the awkward incident off. Guess she accepted the fact that she has just been “Travoltified.” Good thing John Travolta has already apologized to Idina Menzel a.k.a. “Adele Dazeem for the said boo-boo.”
Nevertheless, Menzel did a great performance of the song “Let it Go.” She was the voice behind “Frozen’s” Queen Elsa. She has also portrayed Nancy Tremaine in “Enchanted,” Rachel Berry’s (Lea Michele) mom Shelby Corcoran in “Glee,” Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West in “Wicked” and Maureen Johnson in “Rent.”
Menzel is currently in the Broadway musical “If/Then,” which is capitalizing on her being Travoltified by introducing Menzel as “Adele Dazeem” in a fake playbill notice.
