Johnny Depp reunited with the infamous cocaine dealer George Jung, also known as Boston George, whose life became the focus of the film “Blow.” Jung was released from jail in June 2014 after 20 years. Read on for further details.

TMZ reported that Depp invited Jung to hang out in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015. They talked for hours about “Blow” director Ted Demme, books and poetry. Depp’s fiancée Amber Heard was also with them.

The 72-year-old ex-convict was considered as the mastermind of the cocaine market in the United States. He was imprisoned at FCI Fort Dix, New Jersey. He adjusted his life outside the prison walls in a house on the West Coast.

Back in 2001, the “Sweeney Todd” star visited the “coke star” in jail. He wrote in a letter that he felt a rare moment with Jung as the drug dealer opened his “heart and soul” for him to have an “unlimited access” to the criminal’s intimacies, regrets, fears, dreams and thoughts. He claimed he owes “a great debt of gratitude” to Jung.

“Blow” was released in 2001 with Depp playing as Jung. Other stars were Penelope Cruz, Franka Potente, Rachel Griffiths, Paul Reubens and Miguel Sandoval.

Aside from Jung’s crime, the film also showed Jung growing up in a poor family. He did not want to be like his bankrupt father, so he first became a marijuana dealer. When he was imprisoned, he discovered the wonders of cocaine. After his release from prison, he started selling coke. A bigger crime spree flourished.

Jung was found guilty to own more than 85 percent of smuggled cocaine in America from the 1970s to 1980s. In 1994, he was put into jail after being responsible to 1,754 pounds of cocaine in Kansas. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 60-year imprisonment. His number of years in prison was reduced because he gave testimony during the trial of his longtime business partner Carlos Ledher.

Jung started to call himself the coke star because he believed he was the same as movie and rock stars. He claimed that despite looking like Bela Lugosi, he “had the most beautiful women on the planet” because “women were in love with cocaine” and money.
