Johnny Depp, Sienna Miller: Powerhouse Cast to Star in True Crime Movie ‘Black Mass’
Johnny Depp was picked to star in the new Warner Bros. true action and crime-drama film “Black Mass” along with a powerhouse supporting cast. The film is Depp’s second movie for 2015. Read on to learn more about this scoop.
“Black Mass” was based on the book “Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mafia” written by Dick Lehr and Gerard O’Neill. The story revolves around the life of an Irish criminal, James “Whitey” Bulger, played by Depp. He became famous in the organized crime scene after his release in Alcatraz. Bulger was also among the most violent criminals in the history of South Boston. He was a senator’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) brother and became an FBI informant. While working for the FBI, Bulger used his connection to take down his rivals. He then got into hiding after being listed on the FBI’s most wanted. Read more about Bulger’s story here.
Aside from Depp, “Black Mass’s” impressive cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch from “Star Trek Into Darkness,” who replaced Guy Pearce; “American Sniper’s” Sienna Miller as Bulger’s girlfriend; Joel Edgerton from “The Great Gatsby” as FBI agent John Connolly and Dakota Johnson from “Fifty Shades of Grey” as Bulger’s wife Lindsey. They will also be joined by “Parks and Recreation’s” Adam Scott will play FBI agent Robert Fitzpatrick, Jesse Plemons from “Breaking Bad” as Kevin Weeks, Rory Cochran from “Oculus,” Julianne Nicholson from “Masters of Sex” and June Temple. The latest addition to the cast was “The Following” actor Kevin Bacon, who joined in on June 26, 2014. The cast and crew ended filming on Aug. 1, 2014 in Boston. The film is directed by “Out of the Furnace’s” Scott Cooper and written by Mark Mallouk. “Black Mass” is set for release on Sept. 18, 2015, the same day the adventure thriller “Everest” is set to hit the big screen.
