‘Johnny Quest’ Live Action Movie To Be Directed By Robert Rodriguez For Warner Bros.

Robert Rodriguez will direct the live-action “Jonny Quest” movie for Warner Bros. He and Terry Rossio will be responsible for the screenplay of the film.

The Hanna-Barbera cartoon “Jonny Quest” has been inactive for the past several years. A live-action feature adaptation of this classic cartoon film is on the way. According to Deadline, Robert Rodriguez has signed on to direct the live-action version of the classic 1960s series “Jonny Quest” movie for Warner Bros. Rodriguez and “Pirates of the Caribbean” screenwriter Terry Rossio will both write the script for this film.

“This isn’t the first time a studio attempted to make a ‘Jonny Quest’ live-action film. In fact, fans have been anticipating this since 1995, and it almost happened back in 2009 when Zac Efron was said to be circling the lead role, while Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was rumored to be playing Race,” says report from E! Online.

Rodriguez and Rossio are rewriting the script of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon “Jonny Quest,” originally done by Dan Mazeau. Rodriguez has come on board to direct a live-action feature adaptation of the movie, and Dan Lin & Adrian Askarieh are the producers.

Based on the report from Variety,

“The studio has been in development on an adaptation for quite some time and hopes Rodriguez’s angle can help get the film off the ground.” The source also added that the director seems to be the “perfect fit for the adaptation” of the “Jonny Quest” movie.

The writer-director Rodriguez is famous for his projects “Spy Kids,” “Sin City,” and “Machete.” He has given successful adult-skewing projects such as “Sin City 2,” “Machete Kills,” and “From Dusk Till Dawn,” as well as family films such as “Spy Kids” movies.
