The new adaptation, according to Slash Film, tells the story of a young boy raised by wolves named Mowgli (Neel Sethi). He is forced to embark on an epic journey across the jungle, accompanied by his mentor, the black panther Bagheera (Ben Kingsley), and the free spirited bear named Baloo (Bill Murray). It was after discovering that he can no longer stay with his wolf pack after he is threatened by the tiger Shere Kahn (Idris Elba), who vows to destroy Mowgli, as he is a threat to him and to the jungle itself.
Along the way, he discovers himself, as well as dangerous elements, such as the seductive python Kaa (Scarlet Johansson), and the ape-king King Louie (Christopher Walken) who wants to learn the deadly secret of fire, the only thing that can keep Shere Kahn at bay.
According to Deadline, the official trailer of the movie was released yesterday.
In it, fans and viewers of the original animated classic were able to get glimpses of the epic landscape of the Indian jungle, and grasslands, King Louie’s temple, Mowgli running and moving across the jungle, a glimpse of Bagheera and Shere Kahn, and a nostalgic scene in which Mowgli and Baloo are at a river, with Baloo’s head just a little bit above the water, just enough for him to whistle the tune of “The Bare Necessities.”
However, the only voice that was heard in the trailer was Johansson’s Kaa, who previews the dangers of the jungle for the lone man-cub, and ends with Kaa’s signature line, in which Kaa tries to get Mowgli hypnotized by getting him to “trust” in Kaa.
Yesterday, just a few hours after the trailer was released, director Jon Favreau held a question and answer portion on his official Twitter account, so that fans would be able to ask him any questions they had on their minds, which was later on compiled by Slash Film.
According to the question and answer portion on Twitter, Favreau confirmed that almost the entire movie was done with a lot of CGI as lot of the shots in film were impossible to recreate realistically. But, he assured fans that the overall tone of the film will be a good mix between the 1967 animated version and a modern action film.
He also told fans that Disney and he had decided to push forward with the movie as there was enough technology for such a thing to be possible. He informed fans that not only did they try to have the voice actors record together as much as they could, but that they also studied the movements and mouth movements of real animals to achieve a more realistic look when characters such as Baloo or Bagheera are talking.
