Keanu Reeves Responds to ‘Doctor Strange’ Possible Casting

Marvel Studios has been furthering their efforts in search for the right actor to play the titular role of Doctor Strange. Numerous names have come up, and one of them is Keanu Reeves. The A-List actor finally responds, and the possibility seems quite evident. Read on to know more about this scoop.

Ever since Marvel Studios made that announcement that negotiations for Joaquin Phoenix to undertake the role of Doctor Strange have gone from awry to cancelled, the studio has been avidly continuing their search for the right person to play the role. A lot of names were thrown in as suggestions, and one of them is “The Matrix” icon, Keanu Reeves. The actor then comes forward in some interviews and shares his predicament on the suggested matters. It would appear that he’s both interested and a wee bit cynical about playing such a role.

Advertisement reports an interview with the actor with the Collider in regards to his sentiments about taking part in any heavy-ridden comic book role. It appears as though the actor is keen on playing the role of Doctor Strange if the right cinematic elements are presented at the appropriate moment. However, he appears to be doubtful with the way Marvel Studios have their actors sign a multiple movie contract deal.

“From a practical standpoint the idea of a long-term contract is kind of (makes an audible doubtful sound). You know, because you want to make sure that the material is on a certain level. Like the good or great level,” stated Reeves on Collider.

The actor then continued to share that he is interested in taking part of the superhero narratives and could possibly be one himself. “I like the idea. I mean I go to those kinds of movies. I like superhero movies. I grew up on them and comics and graphic novels and in the movies,” continued Reeves ecstatically.

There’s quite the twist though, he’s not overly familiar with the character of Doctor Strange so he ends his statement with him reading and learning more about one of Marvel’s most talked about roles.

Meanwhile, in another interview he did with Screen Rant, Reeves shared another point of his sentiments stating that he’s very much interested in taking part of another comic book movie, comparing how his latest film “John Wick” treads on such path and rehashing how he played the role of Constantine some years back.

“I love that – I think ‘John Wick’ falls into this in a sense, the world creation. I like those movies. I go to those movies. I grew up on those movies. I like acting in those movies. You get to do fun, cool **** and entertain. I love all that,” described the eponymous but very much laid-back actor.

With this, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise for us to find out that Keanu Reeves ends up in the shortlist to play the role. Looks like we’ll just have to wait and see for Marvel’s next move for “Doctor Strange.” In the meantime, keep your eyes on Keanu Reeves’ upcoming action-drama, “John Wick,” as it opens on Oct. 24, 2014.

That concludes our scoop about Keanu Reeves’ take on the suggestions for him to play as Doctor Strange. Keep visiting Movie News Guide (MNG) for more updates in the entertainment world.
