Killa’ Bees: ‘The Swarm’ Remake Gets Busy

Wow. I actually had a dream about this last night. (No joke.) Expect a remake of cult ’70s B-movie The Swarm to arrive in theaters sometime in 2012.

Big shot producer Roy Lee (The Ring) and Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity) are hoping to create a new version of Irwin Allen’s infamous disaster flick.

Based on Arthur Herzog’s novel, the 1978 feature, The Swarm, starred Michael Caine as an entomologist who leanred that killer bees from South America (not from Africa, please note that) are forming into huge swarms. Huge. Deadly. Swamrs.

Lumanaries like Katherine Ross, Richard Chamberlain, Olivia de Havilland and Henry Fonda were also in the movie.

The Swarm, despite it’s star power (Olivia de Havilland!) tanked in theaters, only taking in a scant $10 million on a budget of $21 million. Caine, always a class act, later called it the worst film he has ever made.

So, yes, we expect great things from the new The Swarm.
