The Last Ship Recap: No Place Like Home Season Finale [WATCH VIDEO]
“The Last Ship” Season 1 Episode 10 “No Place Like Home” aired on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. on TNT. The family of Tom Chandler has become infected by the virus, with his wife getting sick by the hour. They crew head out to Baltimore after receiving a call from Amy Granderson, who used to work for the American president. But not everything was what it seemed. Find out what happened in the season finale in the recap below.
The crew of the USS Nathan James were all administered with the vaccine. Dr. Rachel Scott (Rhona Mitra) was elated but overwhelmed. There were still so many things to do, and she would like to get on with the cure’s mass production. But for now, she will have to enjoy the moment. Because of her work, humanity has a chance. Everyone was in high spirits.
XO Slattery (Adam Baldwin) briefed the crew on their next mission: to head to Fort Dietrich where there should be facility for Dr. Scott to produce the vaccine and the cure. But looking into the satellite feed showed the Dietrich had been burned to the ground. Who would do that?
A crew member caught a message on the radio that a group was looking for the USS Nathan James. They tried to locate this call, and the captain was able to speak to Amy Granderson (Alfre Woodward), one of the security advisers for the president. She confirmed to Capt. Chandler (Eric Dane) that many of the top people in the government have succumb to the virus. But if the USS Nathan James would come to Baltimore, they will be able to provide the facility that Dr. Scott needed.
So the ship changed direction and headed to Baltimore. Arriving there, everything seemed to be in order. There were many sick people on the streets, but Granderson seemed to have some things in control. She has even organized this little group of scientists and authorities to work for her. One breakway group (lead by Titus Welliver), whom they dubbed as the “warlords” however, was causing all these chaos around the city. Apparently, they have been killing more people than the virus, according to Granderson.
The warlords knew that the navy was in Baltimore. Getting information from a man on the inside, they also found out that Granderson’s visitors have the cure. This worried their leader because they knew what Granderson is capable of. They sought to take her lab. But why do the warlords want Granderson dead?
With everything set in place, Capt. Chandler tried to look for his family using the radio; and after a few attempts, his father heard him and told him they were going to Olympia. Granderson’s men stopped them, saying that Olympia is off-limits. A shoot out happened, and Chandler and his men were separated. Chandler still headed to Olympia, where he found his family, but learned that his wife didn’t make it. He also discovered that Granderson’s people were, in fact, killing people who thought that coming to Olympia would save them. They were burning the dead to power the city. What has Granderson done? How evil is this person to have even her daughter, who was part of the navy crew, arrested?
Back at the USS Nathan James, XO Slattery, who took in one of Granderson’s men aboard, was overpowered with the rest of the crew, unable to do anything. Granderson’s men have also taken the USS Nathan James.
As the season closed it is all clear: Granderson was not to be trusted. She had a dangerous agenda. She wanted to wipe out the people that didn’t matter to society so that she could create a new world where only the elites live. This was the kind of monster Chandler and his crew will face next season, which won’t return until next summer.
