The Last Ship Recap: Valkyrie

“The Last Ship” Season 2 Episode 11 “Valkyrie” aired on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at 9:00 p.m. on TNT. In this episode, Sean Ramsey’s (Brian F. O’Byrne) propaganda message led the USS Nathan James to redouble their efforts in figuring out what Valkyrie was and to discover where the signal broadcasting Sean’s messages came from. However, despite them discovering the source, Sean’s message managed to incense several civilians, to the detriment of the crew of the Nathan James, which placed them in mortal peril. Read on to learn more about this episode.

The episode picked up from where the previous episode left off. On land, Tex Nolan (John Pyper-Ferguson), Lieutenant Daniel Joshua “Danny” Green (Travis Van Winkle) and Seamen Miller (Kevin Michael Martin) helped in rescuing and treating injured survivors from the explosions of the civilian flotilla. The USS Nathan James began its repairs from their last skirmish with Sean Ramsey’s (Brian F. O’Byrne) submarine. Commander Thomas “Tom” Chandler (Eric Dane) then agreed to Lieutenant Kara Foster’s (Marissa Neitling) recommendations to send out a helicopter to scope the area while their sonar was being repaired.

However, their efforts were interrupted by a video that was being broadcasted by Sean. He painted the USS Nathan James as the villains. Sean’s video stated that the US Navy was part of a conspiracy to spread the virus, that they kidnapped the acting President of the United States and were responsible for the destruction of the New Orleans Civilian Fleet.

Afterwards, Kara had Dr. Rachel Scott (Rhona Mitra) look at her to make sure that she and the baby were safe. Rachel then tried to reach out to Chandler. It was after telling him that it would be best to wait until they docked at a harbor in order to inject the crew with the contagious cure. However, he decided against it as he wasn’t ready yet.

Inside the President’s quarters, Executive Officer Mike Slattery (Adam Baldwin) showed Michener and Chandler redacted government documents being dumped by Valkyrie. He stated that their mission was code named “Bluenose,” and that they were spinning it to make it seem as if they had been sent to “weaponize” the virus.

Because of this, after the source of the signal was found, an oil rig in the middle of the ocean, the team got ready to board it, with a message from the President which told the world the truth about Sean, which would be broadcasted by the team led by Chandler. The team consisted of Petty Officer Cruz (Ness Bautista), Lieutenant Ravit Bivas (Inbar Lavi), Lieutenant Carlton Burk (Jocko Sims), Lieutenant Andy Chung (Andy T. Tran), Lieutenant Alisha Granderson (Christina Elmore), Senior Chief Petty Officer Wolf-Taylor (Bren Foster), Senior Chief Petty Officer Lynn (Chris Marrs), and Walker.

While there, they discovered a young woman named Valerie Raymond (Tania Raymonde), a genius engineering graduate, who single-handedly created the Valkyrie network.

However, while Chandler was trying to convince her that they were the good guys, they came under attack by some civilians who shot RPG’s at them due to the video that they had seen.

Back on the beach, thanks to Flea (Stephen Monroe Taylor) double crossing them, Tex’s unit escaped several angry civilians, which merited Tex a bullet in his behind.

On the now burning rig, Chandler went back to save Valerie. Chung, who became badly hurt during the attack, tried his best to get an injured Granderson to the top deck so that they could be rescued by their rescue team.

Inside, Taylor, Burk and Ravit raced against time to close all of the valves on the rig. Lynn and Walker had perished in the first wave of attacks.

Back on the ship, Chung died in front of Granderson and Commander Andrea Garnett (Fay Masterson). Ravit, after being assured that everyone was alright, died in front of Taylor and Burk after attempting to recite a Jewish prayer recited on one’s death bed.

Rachel then tended to Chandler who collapsed due to several shrapnel which got embedded in his body.

When he woke, he thanked Rachel, who told him that she still had to remove another piece lodged behind his liver.

Afterwards, he attended the memorial service for their four fallen comrades, which led Valerie to decide to help them.

Meanwhile, despite the loss of their network, Sean was still glad that his message was getting across and continued writing his manifesto in a notebook.
