‘Law & Order: SVU’ Spoilers: What To Expect in Season 17; Season Premiere Spoilers

When it comes to television show veterans, and long running procedurals, it seems as if Dick Wolf’s “Law & Order: SVU” has had the extreme honor of gracing the small screen with its presence for around seventeen years. Despite several characters leaving and returning for the occasional cameo appearance, the series remains a force to be reckoned with, as it continues to churn out stories that are relevant and with characters such as Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), who time and time again, make sure that they do their job to keep the streets of New York safe. And this will be true yet again of its upcoming season, as the cast and producers tease that there will be more interesting and relevant stories to tell, and that the seventeenth season will indeed open with a bang. WARNING: This article contains spoilers regarding the seventeenth season of the long running procedural “Law & Order: SVU.” Read on only to learn more about what new cases the team will face.

According to an exclusive report on The Hollywood Reporter, Dick Wolf’s “Law & Order: SVU,” a veteran show that has now been running for seventeen seasons, will indeed premiere with a bang, as fans of the series will be treated to an explosive two-hour season premiere.

As per “Law & Order’s” usual style, the season premiere’s case will focus on a case that has been on everyone’s minds ever since the HBO documentary “Jinx” came out – the Robert Durst case.

Just like Durst’s case, the premiere will follow the team as they will be investigating a case in which a wealthy New Yorker becomes the suspect of multiple murders, and who later confesses to the crime, despite the fact that no evidence could be found tying him to the murders.

The Hollywood Reporter also released a promotional video which showed the Special Victims Unit team finding around nine dead bodies in several black trash bags that had washed up on the shore of a local beach. It also showed Sergeant Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) telling her team that they weren’t “trusting” their judgement enough, and featured serial killer Greg Yates (Robert Dallas), who was last seen in prison, after being convicted of murder after he kidnapped and murdered “Chicago PD’s” Nadia Decotis (Stella Maeve).

Lastly, the promotional video also featured a sound clip similar to what was shown in “Jinx”, with the murderer proclaiming that he had “killed them all.”

Aside from this, actress Kelli Giddish, who portrays Detective Amanda Rollins teased on E! News that the upcoming season will feature a case that deals with transgenders, and teased that viewers might see Rollins get completely obsessed over an upcoming case.

According to showrunner Warren Leight, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly done some time after season sixteen’s finale, the theme for the upcoming season will be about transitions or changes, which is fitting given the fact that Danny Pino’s Detective Nick Amaro is no longer on the team. He went on to say that everyone will be feeling this, especially Rollins, who was the closest to Nick.

He also went on to say that with Benson’s promotion to lieutenant fans and viewers will be seeing who becomes her second in command early on in the season.

What do you think of Greg Yates returning for the two hour season premiere? What do you think of the Robert Durst based case that will open season seventeen? Who do you think will be Benson’s second in command? Let us know your theories and what you think in the comments below!
