LeBron James vs. Michael Jordan: Both Battle For ‘Basketball’s Greatest’; We Compare Stats to See Who’s Better
Its a clash of titans as two of basketball’s greatest, Michael Jordan and LeBron James verbally took on each other recently. Both James and Jordan have bragged that each could beat the other in a 1-on-1 game in their prime. Read on to find out more.
The controversy was sparked by Michael Jordan at a Q&A at California recently when he was asked if he could defeat James. The 52-year-old responded in trademark competitive Jordan style, saying, “If I was in my prime, could I beat LeBron in a 1-on-1 game? No question,” ESPN reported.
James, not to be outdone, had this to say as a response, in an interview with the Today Show: “Oh, I take myself. For sure. I mean, I’m gonna take myself versus anybody. I’ll tell you one thing — they’re gonna have to have a few wheelchairs and a couple ambulances there to get us off the floor.”
Jordan’s NBA pro career lasted till 2003, whereas James started playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the same year, so the two have never gone head-to-head in the court. And since there is a 22-year age-gap between the two, it is unlikely that such legendary match will ever really take place.
However, the internet has gone full-steam ahead with the fantasy match, comparing stats in the absence of an actual match, like this page at Diffen. Where Jordan has higher points per game, James seems to be slightly better at assists. Both are tied at many levels, such as winning two olympic gold medals each, and being hailed as “rookie of the year” for both players.
