‘Legends of Tomorrow’ New Trailer and Dealing With Time Travel

While waiting for Jan. 21, 2015, to come, fans of DC comic books and the comic book genre, in general, were treated to a crossover special between “The Flash” and “Arrow”, which also served to sow the seeds from which “Legends of Tomorrow” will be coming from. Thanks to this, fans and viewers were able to get a smaller picture of what the show might be like, even though the series will be much grander in scale. Recently, in line with this, new information has been given out thanks to a new trailer, poster, and a new set of interviews that the show creators and executive producers have done in anticipation of the new show. WARNING: This article will contain spoilers for all of CW’s DC shows- “Arrow,” “The Flash,” and especially “Legends of Tomorrow.”

The recent “The Flash” and “Arrow” crossover that happened last week was truly an event to remember, especially as it gave the background stories behind Hawkman or Carter Hall (Frank Hentschel) , Hawkgirl or Kendra Saunders (Ciara Renee), and the villain of “Legends of Tomorrow”, Vandal Savage (Casper Crump).

Now, with that finally done, and with “The Flash” and “Arrow” settling back to its own narrative and story lines, the anticipation for the upcoming show is at the fever pitch.

Thankfully, fans need not wait long for new information to come their way as Screen Rant has just shared the recently released new teaser trailer for the show and a new poster; and Variety and Entertainment Weekly, while interviewing the likes of Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim regarding the aftermath of the crossover event, also managed to get some interesting tidbits that teased at what should be expected in the upcoming show.

Thanks to the sneak peek viewers got of Savage and his powers, it is no wonder that the newest teaser trailer’s tone is a little bit darker. It was especially as it opens with a clip of Savage talking about how the future is forged with war and bullets.

Several new fight scenes were shown; as well as a scene where the White Canary  or Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), just like in the previous trailer, reminded the team, that they had also just been handed the chance to change their own individual fates.

Screen Rant also shared the new poster, which featured the entire team poised and ready for action.

Now, while what the White Canary mentioned about them having the power to change their own fates, as well as the future, might be true, but doing that will not be as easy as she thinks it might be, as every time travelling character, from The Doctorrom “Doctor Who”, to Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) knows.

The subject of the perils of time travel, and especially with relation to character deaths was also touched upon in a recent interview that Variety held with show creators and Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti.

Guggenheim mentioned that they will be explaining the mechanics and perils of time travel more, and will show how time travel cannot be used to merely undo plots or storylines, and to undo character deaths of characters who are truly meant to be dead. There are always serious ramifications to changing events, in particular, timelines, as the Scarlet Speedster himself can attest to.

In a way, according to Kreisberg, although Savage is their main villain, sometimes, time itself ends up becoming the team’s biggest enemy.

Speaking of Savage, many were surprised when “Arrow’s” Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) scooped up the ashes of the vanquished Savage. However, how Savage comes back to life in time for “Legends of Tomorrow” is still a mystery, as that will be shown during the series itself.

It was also noted, both on Variety and on Entertainment Weekly, that this loss was just a minor setback, and they teased that the game that he is playing at is more complicated than just going after Hawkman and Hawkgirl.

In what timeline are you excited to see the team from “Legends of Tomorrow” in? Would you want either the past, future or any other counterpart of the characters in “The Flash” and “Arrow” to show up in “Legends of Tomorrow”? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
