Leighton Meester set to make her Broadway debut in ‘Of Mice and Men’
I always wondered why the most talented cast member from CW’s teen drama Gossip Girl, Leighton Meester, has always been cast for the shittiest movie roles? I will admit that a few of her current projects – namely Life Partners, are interesting. No doubt, The Oranges was also fine, but what was up with all of her already released projects – The Roommate, That’s My Boy, Monte Carlo, Country Strong? Meester is of the caliber, but her previous projects have been greatly disappointing.
But now, it seems that she has finally got a chance to show off real talent. According to The Hollywood Reporter, LeightonMeester has got a new Broadway role in Of Mice and Men at the Longacre Theatre in NYC – with the same production that’s already got James Franco and Chris O’Dowd set to star.
The Depression-era drama is based on the Nobel Prize-winning author, John Steinbeck’s classic novella of the same name. Meester will reportedly play the role of ranch boss Curley’s wife who is described as “the flirtatious, lonely farm beauty nursing broken dreams of movie stardom, who turns the head of gentle giant Lennie… spelling tragedy for the simple-minded field worker.” She will make her Broadway debut appearing opposite previously announced Franco and O’Dowd, who will be portraying main characters George and Lennie.
Produced by David Binder, the production will begin previews on March 19 at the Longacre Theatre, with official opening set for April 16. Tickets will go on sale Jan. 11, while it runs as a limited engagement until July 27.
It’s going to be a pretty big month for Meester as she recently confirmed her engagement to her boyfriend, Adam Brody (former GG star), and now she’s going to have some good material to work with. Finally!
