Leonardo DiCarpio’s ‘The Revenant’ Author Michael Punke Banned From Talking About The Movie
Leonardo DiCarpio’s “The Revenant” movie author Michael Punke has been banned from talking about the film, but why?
Michael Punke is not allowed to talk about his book “The Revenant” due to his position in the US federal government. According to The Guardian, the 51-year-old author is not allowed to make any appearances nor any interviews regarding his novel “The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge” because of his job as the deputy US trade representative and ambassador to the World Trade Organizations.
The site reported that his position forbids him due to the federal ethics rules of the organization. As a deputy, the government prohibits him from doing any side job “that might potentially enrich him and abuse his high-ranking office in the process.”
Other than that, he was allegedly in Nairobi, Kenya, for a $1.3 trillion international trade agreement focused on IT products.
On the other hand, Independent noted that Punke wasn’t able to be in the whole promotional tours like any other film authors, he was also unable to attend the film’s premiere in Los Angeles which is a bit disappointing for other moviegoers and fans as they are excited to meet the mind behind the story of “The Revenant.”
Though the author was not physically present in the event, his brother Tim Punke convey his message to the public.
“Oh, he wishes he could talk about it,” Tim said. “Can you imagine having your book turned into a movie, having Leonardo DiCaprio in it?”
Moreover, Michael’s wife added that “it’s kind of bittersweet” experience for his husband. “He’s so grateful that it just happened, that it came to the big screen, that he can’t complain. But he’s obviously disappointed.”
Michael Punke’s novel “The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge,” published in 2002 and was inspired by the 19th-century frontiersman Hugh Glass, is one of the most anticipated movies adaptation of the year as Leonardo DiCarpio alongside with Tom Hardy gave life to the characters. Some even said that this might be the key for the “Titanic” actor to win his very first Oscar award.
