Live-Action Movie of ‘Pinocchio’ on the Works by Disney
With so many live-action movies lined up for the years to come, who’d have guessed that Disney Studios is planning another one? This time, it’s the classic story of a beloved puppet boy who only wishes to become a real boy! Read on.
Deadline reports that on Wednesday, Apr. 8, the studio announced of their on-going work on a live-action movie loosely based from the classic Disney movie “Pinocchio.” The script is being written by Peter Hedges, who also wrote the script for “The Odd Life of Timothy Green.” He is represented by CAA, Marc Glick of Glick & Weintraub and Stephen Breimer of Bloom, Hergott.
Disney’s “Pinocchio” was also based from an 1883 novel entitled “The Adventures of Pinocchio” written by Carlo Collodil. The story tells about a boy puppet made by a toymaker who wishes it to become a real boy to call as his own child. A fairy then gives the puppet life, but instructs it to be “brave, truthful, and unselfish” so he can become a real boy. But, little Pinocchio comes across many adventures before his wish can be fulfilled. Along the way, he discovers that his nose grows long when he lies.
Under the direction of Ben Sharpsteen and Hamilton Luske, Daily Mail reported “Pinocchio” was released on February 1940 as Disney’s second full-length feature, three years after the release of “Snow White” in 1937. The movie went on to win the Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for the song “When You Wish upon A Star.”
Aside from Disney Studios and Hedges, another production is reportedly planning on making another version of “Pinocchio.” Guillermo del Toro of “The Book Of Life” is currently developing a darker, stop-motion animated 3D film version of “Pinocchio” with his production company and co-writer Matthew Robbins.
Disney has been on the roll lately in making live-action movies of classic Disney cartoons. Among those recently announced movies are the live-action versions of The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, and Mulan.
According to MovieWeb.com, the live-action movie of ‘Pinocchio’ is expected to be released on theaters in 2018.
