Looper Keeps Us in the Loop
Looper is not the Drive of 2012. Those who have already watched the movie said that it is better. The sci-fi thriller is directed by Rian Johnson and premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival. It is scheduled to be released in theaters on September 28.
Looper is an all-out action movie that tackles on several topics. It wants to show that youth is wasted on the young and that mothers are the most important people on this world. The movie is about mobsters, time travel, drugs, telepathy, and the magic of special effects makeup. Makeup artist Kazuhiro Tsuji should be praised for making Joseph Gordon-Levitt turn into Bruce Willis.
Looper has several twists and turns in its plot. It is set in 2072 and when the mob wants to kill someone, they send the target back 30 years in the past where a hit man is waiting. Joe (Gordon-Levitt) learns that the mob wants to take him down in the future by sending back his future self (Willis).
That is what you can learn from the trailer but Johnson does a good job of keeping the secrets under wraps. But the lack of spoilers can be a risky move for the movie. Drive fooled people by its trailers and after its opening weekend, the box office earning of the movie dropped.
To prevent the same from happening with Looper, people should know what they would expect from the movie. It is inevitable that it is compared with Drive but critics say that Looper is far more superior to Drive. They expect people to talk about Looper all throughout 2012.
People would most likely compare Looper to 12 Monkeys, which is another sci-fi movie featuring a time-travelling Bruce Willis. It is also a movie that people want to watch over and over again. This will be a good thing for Looper.
