‘Love & Hip Hop’ Star Stevie J Pleads Not Guilty for $1 Million Unpaid Child Support
“Love & Hip Hop” star Steven Jordan, known as Stevie J, went to court on Feb. 10, 2015 to plead not guilty from allegations of unpaid child support worth more than $1.1 million. Read on for further details.
According to RealityTea.com, Jordan claimed that he never missed a payment. He explained that his mode of payment is installment, which resulted to a misunderstanding. He said his money was being spent by his kids faster than he earns it. He was confident that he took great care of all his children.
In rebuttal, he asked for the judge’s help to relieve him from financial responsibilities and described him as a “fair and a great judge” who understands what he has been going through. He confirmed his statement to TMZ.
“It seems like the judge knows this is a frivolous case here,” Jordan told TMZ.
Jordan’s biggest worry is lack of jurisdiction that could make the judge throw his case out. He is determined to get as much information on the state court dismissal.
NY Daily News wrote that the reality star’s payment for child support was increased in 2011 into $8,557. Jordan is reported to stop paying despite his $27,000 income every month just by being one of the cast on “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.” He could be imprisoned for two years with higher fines if convicted.
Jordan posted a photo on Instagram showing himself and his “support system” outside court with the hashtag #TheDevilIsALiar on the caption.
Jordan’s case was forwarded to federal court rather than state court. Andrew DeFilippis, assistant U.S. attorney, explained that the federal court is the “last resort” because of the large amount of alleged unpaid money. Filing errors also made the state court lack suitable resolution.
“There is a history in this case of the failure of Family Court to address this successfully,” DeFilippis said, as published on RealityTea.com.
Aside from unpaid child support, Jordan also encountered 10 failed drug tests. He recently undergone rehab, as ordered by the court. He talked about feeling hopeless when his daughter was raped in the past, which led him into a “dark place” with illegal drugs. However, he is proud that he finally overcame his addiction.
According to Page Six, Jordan is currently promoting his new single “DNA” with Snoop Dogg. The song will be released in a few weeks.
