‘Magic Mike 3’ Unlikely Happening; ‘Magic Mike XXL’ Opens at $28.7 Million
“Magic Mike XXL” was unfortunately unable to relish in the magic that its immediate predecessor had, as the sequel failed to surpass “Magic Mike” in its first weekend in the domestic box-office. Does this mean “Magic Mike 3” will no longer happen? Read on to learn more about this scoop.
“Magic Mike XXL” may still have its charm among ladies, but the “Magic Mike” sequel failed to surpass its predecessor when it opened in theaters last July 1. The sequel opened at $28.7m in its first weekend in the domestic box office, faring lower than the first film, which opened at $39.1m, The Guardian cited.
The outlet also noted that 96 per cent of the audience who watched “Magic Mike XXL” over the 4th of July weekend were females; markedly higher than the statistics from the first film. It also cited several reasons for lower viewership among male audiences, including poor reviews from critics and the presence of other box office hit movies along with the premiere.
Cinema Blend also considered the possibility of “Magic Mike 3” happening in the near future. The outlet cited that given the figures and support that “Magic Mike XXL” has received, it is very unlikely to see Channing Tatum, Joe Mangianello and the rest of the crew back on stage.
“Why? Because ‘Magic Mike XXL,’ as much as I enjoyed it, wasn’t made because the next chapter of the story needed to be told. Nor was the sequel a cash grab by any means,” the outlet explained.
The outlet also cited that the show’s lead actor, Channing Tatum, previously mentioned that the fate of “Magic Mike 3” rests in the hands of its hands.
