Man Seeking Woman Recap: Branzino
“Man Seeking Woman” Season 1 Episode 8 “Branzino” aired on Wednesday March 4, 2015 at 10:30 p.m. on FXX. Josh finally lands with a girlfriend but when things turned serious, he learns that he and his soulmate aren’t exactly a match. Find out what happened in this episode in the recap below.
Josh (Jay Baruchel) excitedly arrives home to check his mails. He’s expecting letters like he’s expecting college application confirmation. Except, this one is from potential girlfriends. So far, all the letters that he read are rejections. He feels really bad, but then he sees there’s one letter he hasn’t open yet. He rips this and reads the good news: “Dear Josh, we are delighted to announce that you’ve been accepted as a boyfriend by Rachel.”
But who’s Rachel? His friend Mike (Eric Andre) wonders. Josh shows him the brochure and Mike advises him to defer for a year and travel before settling for this girl. Too late, Josh has already gone to see her.
He believes he and Rachel are soulmates. Walking arm in arm, Rachel tells him she’s looking forward to meeting his mom. Cue “Late Night With Mom,” a talk show with, who else, but Josh’s mom as host. Josh and Rachel sit on the guest’s couch and the first meeting between the women is icy.
Mom goes ahead with her questions and insults Josh’s new girlfriend. During the commercial break, however, Rachel tries to get to the good side of Josh’s mom. She asks for a recipe and mom grills her about this dinner party she’s preparing. This actually impresses her because Rachel is taking pains to do a “sit-down dinner.” She’s actually going to cook! Rachel becomes mom-approved! She’s calling them her new favorite couple already.
At Josh’s apartment, Rachel is thrilled that it went so great with Josh’s mom. She prepares Josh their favorite meal of soft-boiled eggs, which her boyfriend actually loathes. He dare not tell her this since he wouldn’t want to hurt his soulmate’s feelings. Later, they welcome guests over for their sit-down dinner. Josh is starting to get really uncomfortable, but he puts up with everything.
Mike arrives drunk, not realizing there’s a dinner party. He crashes in and ruins the dinner for everyone. Rachel asks Josh to put his friend in another room. After the party, Josh finds Mike all naked and wasted in the room. Rachel thinks it’s time he brings Mike to this place that looks like a kill-shelter, exceptthat it’s not for pets, but for best friends or bros. Josh cannot take it, but he signs the paper anyway. He bids Mike goodbye with sadness.
But just as he’s about to step out of the facility, he sees another bro being euthanized, so he comes back and declares he cannot leave Mike. The woman tells him it’s no longer possible since Mike is now a property of the state. Josh tries to break him out and succeeds. They arrive at this place where “bros can run free” and Josh says goodbye to Mike again. He has to return to Rachel.
The next day over lunch with Josh’s sister, Josh and Rachel announce that they are going to be “surgically conjoined.” His sister is shocked as it’s still too early for them. Josh insists they are soulmates.
So, it happened. Josh and Rachel now share one body and are together all the time. But as days passed, they discover that being conjoined isn’t all that fun. They’re annoying each other and their sex life is actually bad now with their bodies as one. They bicker and realize that despite their closeness, there’s a wall between them now.
Later, Josh and Rachel are dividing stuff between them. They are separating, literally, including their conjoined bodies. The good news is, Josh gets the bowel functions!
That night after parting with Rachel, he’s is in a girly bar with Mike and they ponder about being single again. Josh, meanwhile, has to physically heal from the separation since he is still bleeding.
