Meanwhile, as both the Inhumans and S.H.I.E.L.D. clashed in an epic struggle where allegiances shifted and the truth was tested, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) and Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) raced against time to save Agent Bobbi “Mockingbird” Morse (Adrienne Palicki) from the hands of Agent Kara Palamis (Maya Stojan) and Grant Ward (Brett Dalton). Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began right from where the last episode left off, with Jiaying (Dichen Lachman) collapsing on the floor. She then told Skye (Chloe Bennett) and the others that they were now at war as of Agent Robert Gonzales (Edward James Olmos) had allegedly shot her. She then ordered Gordon (Jamie Harris) to get everyone to safety and refused Agent Jemma Simmons’ (Elizabeth Henstridge) help.
Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) became worried as there was still no word or sign of Agent Bobbi “Mockingbird” Morse (Adrienne Palicki). Simmons then told S.H.I.E.L.D Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) what happened.
Their other quinjet was then infiltrated by Gordon and another Inhuman. They took control of the quinjet and blasted the room that Jiaying and Gonzales had been in. As Jiaying was being taken by Lincoln Campbell (Luke Mitchell) to one of their doctors, Skye told them that she didn’t know that this was going to happen. She used her powers against Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), who refused to leave until she knew what really happened to Gonzales.
After May, on the quinjet, woke up, Coulson instructed them not to attack before they knew more. He knew that Gonzales wouldn’t have killed Jiaying as he went to great lengths to get the Chinese charm. It was a peace offering, which meant that something was off.
Meanwhile, Lincoln told Skye to stop helping them, and told her that Jiaying was right about S.H.I.E.L.D. Skye then went to Raina (Ruth Negga) and asked her what else she had seen. Raina then told her that she was supposed to help Skye become what she was destined to be- a leader.
Gordon then came to Jiaying with the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent he had captured from the quinjet, and gave him to Jiaying. He drained him in order to heal. She then told Gordon that everything was working. Lincoln would now follow her into war, but Skye had still to be convinced. Later, she gave Skye the charm that Gonzales had given her to give to Skye and told her to return it to her if she decided to join her.
Meanwhile, in Spain, Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) told her that they were going to torture her until she admitted her biggest sin against Agent Kara Palamis (Maya Stojan). It turned out that she had willingly given up Kara to HYDRA to be brainwashed and tortured so that Kara could gain closure. Later, Ward revealed that he was going to place a paralytic and an anaesthetic. It would allow her to feel all the pain at once, which was how Kara had felt after the effects of HYDRA’s brainwashing had left her. However, she told them that she had made the right call, because it was either she give up a safe house with a fifty percent chance that a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in it to keep her cover or else a dozen other undercover agents within HYDRA would have been compromised. She then warned Kara that Ward was molding her into following him, but Kara didn’t listen.
Back at the base, May told Coulson that Skye chose to side with the Inhumans. Coulson then told them that they had been played by Jiaying. Hr had staged the entire thing to convince the rest of her people to follow her into a war with S.H.I.E.L.D. Hunter then revealed to them that they had been played by Ward and Kara, who had disguised herself as May, to lure Bobbi out. The two then decided to lead a team to rescue Bobbi.
Meanwhile, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain de Castecker) came up with a device to trap Gordon inside one room. Coulson was then given three hours to figure out what really happened to Gonzales. Simmons then told Coulson that Cal’s concoction was an attempt at creating a super strength serum, but what was strange was the fact that he hadn’t died from it yet.
Jiaying then met up with Raina and stabbed her in the throat. Skye, who saw it happen, then realized that her mother had to be stopped but was knocked out by one of Jiyaing’s assistants.
Coulson then went to Cal in the brig, who told Coulson that he was there to kill as many agents as he possibly could.
Meanwhile, Bobbi got knocked out again by both Ward and Kara after she broke out of her bonds and tried to escape. This caused them to tie her to a chair, and set up a trap so that whoever came in through the door would get shot.
May and Hunter then discovered the building where Bobbi was being held, and Ward accidentally killed Kara, who was tricked by May into wearing her face. Bobbi then got shot as she launched herself in front of the gun so that Hunter wouldn’t get shot.
Back at the base, Coulson tried to make Cal see that Jiaying had been manipulating him the entire time. This caused him to flat line, but was jolted awake and became stronger after Simmons injected adrenaline into him. However, Cal came to senses and asked them to accept his help to stop his wife, He had killed so that she could heal, but it was never enough.
On the carrier, Gordon, Lincoln and an Inhuman who could multiply herself took over the ship for Jiaying and locked Skye in holding. Jiaying then murdered the other agents and forced Agent Weaver (Christine Adams) to expand their distress signal so that Jiaying could use the terrigen crystals on everyone on S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie (Henry Simmons), geared up with an axe, got Skye out, and told her to hack into the system to stop her mother. She was then stopped by Lincoln. She tried to reason with him and discovered that Jiaying planned to place the terrigen mist through the ventilation system.
Before Coulson and his team left for the carrier, Simmons took care of Bobbi, whom they operated on, and May called Dr. Andrew Garner (Blair Underwood). Simmons then went to Fitz and told him that he still had a chance with her.
On the way to the carrier, after getting Skye’s message in morse code, Coulson sent all the other quinjets away.
On the carrier, Cal confronted Jiaying, and Fitz, who managed to trap Gordon inside one room, killed him by skewering him with the pipe he was carrying. Coulson then caught the terrigen crystal that he had been holding, which quickly infected his hand, which caused Mack to cut it off.
Skye, who had been fighting off the girl who could multiply was then helped by May and Lincoln, who defeated her by electrocuting the prime.
Daisy then confronted her mother, who began to drain her energy. However, she managed to use her powers to knock the quinjet with the crystals into the ocean, and Cal snapped Jiaying’s neck.
After the battle, Bobbi, who was now recovering, told Hunter that she couldn’t do “this” anymore. May packed up her locker for a good long vacation with her ex-husband, and Coulson appointed Mack to be in charge of all the alien artifacts.
Coulson then took Skye to see her father. He had undergone the TAHITI protocol, and was now a veterinarian. She then agreed to be part of a new anonymous team of powered people, which she would lead.
Meanwhile, the terrigen crystals in the sea burst and contaminated fish which were then used to create vitamins.
Grant Ward then became the new head of HYDRA, and Simmons, after agreeing to go out to dinner with Fitz, while working with the Kree stone, got sucked into it.
