Raina’s (Ruth Negga) powers were revealed in a very unorthodox way. Meanwhile, as Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) began to question S.H.I.E.L.D. Director  Phil Coulson’s (Clark Gregg) actions, it was revealed how May earned the nickname of “The Cavalry”.  Read on to learn more about this episode.

The episode began seven years ago. It was right before S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) picked up S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) for their trip to meet a gifted individual in Bahrain. Before she left, her husband, S.H.I.E.L.D. psychologist Dr. Andrew Garner (Blair Underwood) told her that they would be going on a romantic weekend together, especially as they had been trying to conceive a child.

Later, they were told that if Eva Balyakov (Winter Ave Zoli)  didn’t come in quietly to May and Coulson, the cavalry would have to be called the in-an elite group of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.

In the present day, May, after discovering that Coulson had been working on a secret project called Theta Protocol. She didn’t even know about it. She decided to gain command over her base in order to see if S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Bobbi Morse (Adrienne Palicki) was telling the truth. However, she discovered that Bobbi’s research added up correctly. She became disturbed at the fact that Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) had been working on Agent Mike Peterson’s (J. August Richards)  Deathlok upgrades without her knowing. She then tried to excuse Coulson by saying that Coulson always had a good reason for doing things. Later on, she insisted that Simmons open the toolbox after discovering that Coulson had been secretly meeting with her husband. It was also because Coulson was trying to build a base in order to further explore the possibilities of people with powers.

Meanwhile, after Jiaying (Dichen Lachman) explained that Skye (Chloe Bennet) had the ability to hone into an object’s frequencies so that she could choose what to move. Skye managed to move a mountain a little bit. Afterwards, Lincoln (Luke Mitchell) told her that Jiaying has almost never been anyone’s guide before as she runs the entire place.

Meanwhile, in a flashback to Bahrain, it was shown that Eva refused to come in quietly, and together with some street gangs, took a little girl and a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent hostage. They tried to negotiate, but as it was to no avail, the cavalry was sent in. However, after the team that was sent in were all defeated, May decided to go in so that she could rescue the little girl.

Inside, the other S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, who were being controlled, told May that they wanted her pain, just as Eva had said in the café. However, after she killed Eva, she discovered that the little girl, Katya (Ava Acres), was the one controlling everyone, as she fed off emotions, such as pain. May, who was already in bad shape, then shot Katya. It allowed the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to come out alive. As she had fought off more than thirty people inside, people started to call her “The Cavalry,” as the cavalry had indeed been sent in.

However, because of this, her relationship with her husband suffered, and she asked to be transferred to a desk job.

In the present day, Raina (Ruth Negga) was still struggling with her transformation and with the fact that her powers hadn’t manifested yet. After Lincoln comforted her, she told him that she has dreams of a very happy Skye, having dinner with her father, with a  bouquet of daisies on the table. Later, she agreed to stay as Gordon (Jamie Harris), her guide, promised to take her to different places.

Afterwards, Skye discovered that Jiaying was her mother. She was told her that Jiaying and her father, Calvin Zabo (Kyle MachLachlan) had search for her relentlessly. In the end, she had lost her husband’s sanity in the process. This made her decide to protect those who lived in “Afterlife.” However, she was told not to tell this to anyone as her rules had gotten stricter. It was after Eva stole the terragen crystals to transform her daughter, Katya, who had changed May’s life in Bahrain.

Afterwards, they had dinner with Cal, who revealed that Skye was twenty-six-years-old. Lincoln, who passed by them, remembered Raina’s dream after seeing the daisies near Skye. It made him realize that Raina was precognitive.

Meanwhile, at a diner’s bathroom, Leo Fitz (Iain de Castecker), managed to open the Toolbox and used it to call Coulson and Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) who helped him out as Fitz knew that the other’s at S.H.I.E.L.D. were following him.
