MARVEL’s Agents of SHIELD Recap: Scars
“MARVEL’s Agents of SHIELD” Season 2 Episode 20 “Scars” aired on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. In this episode, the mysterious Theta Protocol was finally revealed, and S.H.I.E.L.D. encountered the Inhuman race after Raina (Ruth Negga) and Gordon (Jamie Harris) came on board to look for a Kree weapon that would end the Inhumans, on their boat. Because of this, S.H.I.E.L.D. decided to make first contact with the Inhumans. Meanwhile, Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) revealed that he wasn’t done with S.H.I.E.L.D. yet. Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began with S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) revealing what Theta Protcol was all about. It is a secret failsafe helicarrier which Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) used in order to help the Avengers defeat Ultron, and to save the people of Sokovia. Coulson then told Agent Robert Gonzales (Edward James Omos), Bobbi “Mockingbird” Morse (Adrienne Palicki), Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), Agent Weaver (Christine Weaver) and the others that he believed that he did need people to advise him. She suggested they operate as one organization, with him as the director, with the board as his advisors.
Meanwhile, Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) looked after Agent 33 or Kara (Maya Stojan), as her brain was released from the HYDRA brainwashing, and over Lincoln (Luke Mitchell). He became scared after realizing that he was in S.H.I.E.L.D. However, Skye (Chloe Bennet) assured him that Simmons and Agent Leo Fitz (Iaian de Castecker) were their friends.
Meanwhile, Raina (Ruth Negga) told Gordon (Jamie Harris) about a strange dream that she had about a stone that turned into liquid. Jiaying (Dichen Lachman) then informed them that it was a Kree weapon created to wipe them out and allowed them to go to wherever it was. They then teleported to the S.H.I.E.L.D. carrier and discovered that it was the secret cargo that Gonzales had been holding. Meanwhile, Calvin “Cal” Zabo (Kyle Maclachlan) continued to warn his wife against Raina.
Skye then told Coulson that she trusted in the Inhumans. She told May that she knew about what happened in Bahrain as the girl she had killed was an Inhuman. Weaver then informed them that thanks to HYDRA’s tracking of Gordon, they knew where they were. They then decided to pay a visit to the Inhumans, with Skye as their liaison. Later, Skye assured them that Jiaying would listen to her as Jiaying was her mother. Agents then came to lock Kara away.
Later, Agent Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie (Henry Simmons) decided to quit S.H.I.E.L.D. He didn’t trust in Coulson due to his new alien DNA. After Lincoln got indexed, they left so that Gordon could take them home.
At Afterlife, Raina told Gordon to not let Jiaying meet S.H.I.E.L.D. She saw another vision in which S.H.I.E.L.D’s jets rained fire on them. Skye then told her mother to meet with Coulson as she trusted him. Later, Cal told Jiaying that Coulson cared about their daughter. He told her that as a sign of good faith, she should give him to S.H.I.E.L.D., but that they should be wary about their indexing.
Back at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, Coulson was voted off the team as he had never been objective when it came to Skye. Simmons then packed up her bags to do the indexing. She told Fitz that she was mad at herself for not killing Grant Ward (Brett Dalton).
After the jets had left, May informed Bobbi that they were to go and scout ahead. However, later, it was revealed that May was really Kara in disguise, whom she defeated. However, she was later shot with an icer by Ward. He iced her some more on board the jet as they needed her for something.
At Afterlife, Jiaying met with Gonzales and had Skye take Cal to Agent May. However, Cal had empty vials of the concoction that he normally took.
Inside, Gonzales tried to explain that they wanted to index them. The S.H.I.E.L.D. could stop anyone of them who went out of control in order to protect the world. After he gave her the Chinese charm that she was supposed to give Skye, she broke a terrigen crystal laced with diviner metal, which instantly killed him. She wouldn’t allow anyone to harm her daughter or her race. She then shot herself twice in the shoulder with his gun. She announced that S.H.I.E.L.D. had tried to kill her and that they were currently at war.
