Marvel’s ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Becomes the Studio’s Third Highest-Grossing Movie Ever
Marvel and Disney’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” proves to be a tough contender in the worldwide box office. The superhero action film has recently named as the third highest-grossing Marvel movie of all time. Read on for more details on this story.
According to Variety, the movie juggernaut has again broken its record earning a total $732.7 million worldwide as of October of 2014, thanks to its performance at the Chinese box office. Despite some reports of poorly translated subtitles, the pic which is in its second weekend earned a total of $69 million in China, effectively becoming the highest grossing country outside the United States for “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
As of now, “Guardians Of The Galaxy” has earned a worldwide total of $732.7 million, $327.9 million in North American territories and $404.8 in other countries. “Guardians of the Galaxy” is the fourteenth movie of 2014 to gross over $300 million, which it did in 10 days and the third Walt Disney Studios to gross over $700 million and fourth pic for Marvel, to do so, behind “The Avengers”, “Iron Man 3” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” “Guardians of the Galaxy” is now the third highest grossing Marvel Studios film, ranking behind “The Avengers” and “Iron Man 3.”
Moreover, at Variety’s Entertainment & Technology Summit last week, Guardians helmer James Gunn
confirmed the return of all five original cast members for the upcoming sequel, along with other unspecified members of the film’s cast, as well as new members for the team, in a story that will unravel some of the secrets posed in the first pic.
“I spent all day on August 1, the day the first movie was released, writing Guardians 2, I was so excited about it and I was finally able to let go of the last one and begin the second one. I always saw this as a universe, not just as one story.” said Gunn in the Variety report.
In a lighter note, the Guardians Of The Galaxy Soundtrack “Awesome Mix Vol. 1” will also be released as a limited edition cassette on November 17th and is available till December 31, or until supplies last. Meanwhile “Awesome Mix Vol. 1” DVD and Blu-Ray will be released on December 9. The Soundtrack includes:
