Mel Gibson’s Daughter in The Patriot Dies
Skye McCole Bartusiak, who appeared in “The Patriot” as the daughter of Mel Gibson, is gone too soon. Read on to learn more about the unexpected passing away of the former child actress.
On Saturday, July 19, 2014, Bartusiak, 21, was found lifeless in her parents’ home in Texas at around 9:00 a.m. according to an exclusive report from TMZ.
The Daily Mail’s reported that the former child actress was unconscious in her bedroom when her family members found her. Because of the incident, the actress’s family has a strong suspicion that she passed away in her sleep. Although some reports said that police have not found any signs of suicide, ongoing investigations are trying to find out exactly what caused Bartusiak’s death. It was also noted that an autopsy would be necessarily performed while there was a pending toxicology report.
Sadly, this was the second time that a cast from the box-office hit American historical war film, which was produced by the Mutual Film Company and Centropolis Entertainment and was distributed by Columbia Pictures in 2000, was reported dead at a very young age. It can be remembered that the public was caught speechless by the news in 2008 that actor Heath Ledger passed away due to prescription drug overdose.
Aside from Gibson and Ledger, the actress worked with actor Chris Cooper and director Roland Emmerich in “The Patriot.” In the last 14 years, Bartusiak’s television career can be said to have been at its peak. She was seen playing significant characters in shows such as “House MD,” “CSI,” “Lost” and “24.” She also had major roles on stage in “The Miracle Worker,” playing Helen Keller, in 2003.
Fellow child actress and a close friend to Bartusiak, Abigail Breslin, expressed her extreme sadness in a tweet that eulogizes the dear friend. In her tweet, she described Bartusiak as a sisterlike friend.
