“The Mentalist” has been renewed for Season 7. TV Line reported that CBS recently announced that “The Mentalist” will be renewed and will head for its Season 7 in the upcoming 2014-2015 primetime lineup. In March 2014, the network had earlier announced several renewal of its shows, but the veteran drama was not one of them. The move had brought speculations that the show would be cancelled after Season 6.
Deadline posted about the news that Warner Bros. Television Studio has been looking for another home for the show if ever the renewal would not be made. This has been the latest step that the studio made in order to retain the show that brought them a whopping $2 million per episode off-network deal with TNT and other international rights for the show.
Good thing is that CBS had straightened out the kinks and officially announced the renewal of “The Mentalist”, especially since the show had given the network millions of viewers on its former schedule on the Thursday lineup and after it was moved on Sunday. After that, the show continued to garner promising ratings when it finally moved on from the Red John storyline, which spanned for more than five seasons.
It was also reported that it might be the show’s final season as Simon Baker, the show’s main star has only one more year from his million-dollar contract with Warner Bros TV. On the other hand, “The Mentalist” creator Bruno Heller has got himself busy over the highly-anticipated “Gotham” series over the FOX network. It was said that there’s a possibility that Heller may hand over the duties to Tom Szentgyorgyi, one of the show’s executive producers.
In other “The Mentalist” news, the show is currently on its way for the Season 6 finale “Blue Bird.” After the penultimate episode, Season 6 Episode 21 “Black Hearts” (air date: May 11, 2014), “The Mentalist” Season 6 Episode 22 “Blue Bird” airs on Sunday, May 18, 2014.
