How I Met Your Mother Finale: Life after HIMYM [WATCH VIDEO]
Although it took nine seasons, 206 episodes and 4,532 minutes of running time before they learned about “The Mother,” it’s still an awesome experience not only for the fans but also the entire cast and crew behind CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother. ” Read on and learn more about the cast and crews’ future projects after the 9-year old sitcom wraps up on March 31, 2014, as well as the other projects that they have done before and during the HIMYM run.
Josh Radnor (Ted Mosby)
HIMYM Endgame: Though the series’ time frame started in 2005 and ended in 2030, it still took Ted Mosby and his friends almost a decade of TV years before he got to meet “The Mother.” TV Line summed up all of the 13 episodes that led to their most-awaited meeting which includes the famed yellow umbrella, a glimpse of an ankle and the bass guitar used in Barney and Robin’s wedding.
Future projects: Aside from starring in HIMYM, he had worked as a director in several indie films which he also starred in. His works include “Happythankyoumoreplease” (2010) with Malin Akerman & Kate Mara and “Liberal Arts” (2012) with Elizabeth Olsen. After the show ends, he reportedly wants to continue his work in developing movies and scripts.
Alyson Hannigan (Lily Aldrin)
HIMYM Endgame: She previously worked as a kindergarten teacher before getting a job as an art consultant from George Van Smoot a.k.a. “The Captain” in Rome.
Future project: The 40-year old actress will continue her TV tie-ups with the CBS network’s comedy “More Time with Family.” According to TV Line, she got a lead role in the upcoming show penned by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. She is set to take on the role as the wife of Tom Papa’s character.
Jason Segel (Marshall Eriksen)
HIMYM End game: “Marshmallow” has been married to his longtime girlfriend, Lily. Year later, they welcomed two kids namely Daisy and Marvin W. Eriksen. He had an invitation to become a judgeprior to their Rome trip.
Future projects: According to The Wrap, one of his upcoming films in 2014 is the comedy “Sex Tape” with his “Bad Teacher” co-star Cameron Diaz which opens on July 25, 2014. Now, he is now filming “The End of the Tour” with Jesse Eisenberg.
Neil Patrick Harris (Barney Stinson)
HIMYM End game: After living like a modern-day Casanova during the show’s entire run, he is now reformed and got married to his best friend/partner-in-crime, Robin.
Future projects: Harris will return to his Broadway roots after HIMYM in 2014. Entertainment Weekly reported that he will star in the first Broadway adaptation of the rock musical “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” where he will play a transsexual rock star. It is set to have its preview on March 29, 2014, followed by the official opening date on April 22, 2014.
He will also appear in upcoming movies including Seth MacFarlane’s “A Million Ways to Die in the West” (2014), the film adaptation of “Gone Girl” (2014) and 2015’s “The Good Dinosaur.”
Cobie Smulders (Robin Scherbatsky)
End game: In the show, she was known as a fiercely independent woman who is like the girl version of Harris’ character, Barney. Now, she is happily married to him after a series of failed relationships with Ted, other men and even, Barney himself.
Future projects: She voiced the Lego version of Wonder Woman in the computer animated film “The Lego Movie” in early 2014. She will also reprise her role in 2012’s “The Avengers” as S.H.I.E.L.D Agent Maria in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” (2014) and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (2015.) Variety noted in an article that Smulders will play as the girlfriend of Paul Rudd’s character in David Wain’s “They Came Together” (2014).
Cristin Milioti (The Mother)
HIMYM Endgame: Her first official appearance was in the Season 8 finale where she was about to attend Barney and Robin’s wedding as a part of the wedding band. She only had one line there, “One ticket to Far Hampton, please.”
In an interview in EW, Carter Bays and Craig Tomas noted that her one-liner appearance was a big moment for them. They also referred her as a fantastic actress who has been in the Broadway musical “Once.” They also noted that Milioti has been the perfect choice to play “The Mother” despite having only a few films and TV roles under her belt.
Future projects: In 2013, she had a role in Martin Scorsese’s “Wolf of Wall Street” starring Leonardo DiCaprio. According to Deadline, she will join the cast of the upcoming NBC series “A to Z.”
David Henrie and Lyndsy Fonseca (Ted’s kids)
HIMYM End game: In the show’s pilot episode back in 2005, Henrie and Fonseca played the roles of Ted’s children with “The Mother.” Henrie was 14 years old, while Fonseca was already 18 years old. Though they only appeared in 64 episodes, their taped scenes were recycled from the previous episodes. Hitflix reported that they had to film their scene for the series finale in 2006 to retain their image as young adults.
In 2013, the show’s creators released a video entitled “Ted’s Kids Like You’ve Never Seen Them” at the San Diego Comic Con. The video shows Henrie and Fonseca all grown up in 2038.

Now, Fonseca is 27 years old while Henrie will be 25 years old on July 11, 2014.
After their HIMYM stints, Fonseca had roles in films and TV ncluding “Kick-Ass” (2010), “Kick-Ass 2” (2013) and the TV series Nikita as a new recruit. Henrie starred in several Disney shows such as Justin Russo in “Wizards of Waverly Place,” “That’s So Raven” and “The Suite Life on Deck.”
Carter Bays and Craig Thomas (HIMYM Creators)
Deadline reported that the network ordered the pilot for the HIMYM spin-off entitled “How I Met Your Dad,” which has been pitched in October 2013.
Only in February 2014, Deadline also stated the spin-off series has included Indie actress/director Greta Gerwig in the titular role.
The “How I Met Your Mother” Season 9 Finale “Last Forever” will be aired at 9 p.m. on CBS. It will be divided into two parts but will be shown both on March 31, 2014. Don’t miss it! It will truly be legen-wait for it-dary!
