‘Metal Gear Solid V’ and ‘Mad Max’ Face-Off With September 1 Release Date

‘Metal Gear Solid V’ and ‘Mad Max’ seem to be heading for a release day collision this Sept. 1. So who will win in this battle to capture video game sales on multiple consoles and PC, Solid Snake or Max Rockatansky? Read on to find out more.

Gamers are excited about the release of Konami’s  ‘Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain,’ with early reviews praising the game’s graphics and short loading screens, at least on the PS4 version. In fact, the reviewer at Gaming Bolt was so overwhelmed by the light quality in the game that the reviewer there calls the game’s FOX engine as “the best lighting engine ever.”

Controversy has also sparked over ‘Metal Gear’ creator Hideo Kojima’s exit from Konami even before the game was released. Despite polarizing the fan-base, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’ remains one of the most anticipated games of the year.

Unfortunately Konami has also confirmed that Solid Snake still cannot swim, though the studio promises “ he can walk through water, shallow streams, anything where his feet touch the ground.”

Going toe to toe with the champ is Avalanche Studios’ open world post-apocalyptic RPG, ‘Mad Max’, based on summer’s superhit blockbuster, “Mad Max:Fury Road.” Though ‘Mad Max’ does not have ‘Metal Gear Solid’s’ storied history, it is an easily accessible RPG for a casual gamer. Warner Brother’s are hoping for a repeat of the success from “Shadows of Mordor”, which is based on “The Hobbit” movies.

Though the previews for this game have been decidedly lukewarm, in the IGN preview, the reviewer praised the game’s vehicular combat mechanics, very much like the movie, with this awesome description:

“An explosive ‘thunderpoon’ into the fuel tank of the enemy ride to my left sent it into a staggering cartwheel of sparks and flames… Finally, repeated harpoon rounds at the lead car removed layers of its armour like a scrap metal striptease, exposing its passengers and allowing me to barbecue them alive with a sustained burst from the Opus’ sideburners.”

It is worth noting that Konami is shrewdly releasing ‘Metal Gear Solid’ on last-gen consoles, unlike ‘Mad Max.’  So if we were to pick a favorite in this fight, we would pick ‘Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain.’
