‘MIB 4:’ Considering A Female For Lead Role
The Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones pairing was well-received by the audiences. Especially Smith adding his humor, which made him a fan favorite. “MIB” franchise was not considered a huge film even though they grossed millions worldwide. With Sony Pictures at the helm of the franchise the creative aspect of the film was never really in doubt. But with Tommy Lee Jones retiring in the franchise and Smith who made it clear that he’s not returning for the franchise, it will be difficult who will continue the journey of Agent J and Agent K.
According to Comicbook, Laurie Macdonald has admitted that she considers getting a woman for the lead role in “MIB 4” without spilling any further secrets regarding the movie. With “MIB 4” still in early stages of production no star cast or story is yet defined. Fans are also speculating what would be the title of the movie if a woman replaced the roles of Agent J and Agent K because you can’t call them “Men in Black” now when two women takes over, right?
According to Screenrant, though a female character’s inclusion is an evolutionary stride it remains to be seen how the chemistry between Smith and Jones will be inherited by a female character. The entire movie being based on the partnership of Agent J and Agent K will be hard for fans to accept a new pair though a female’s inclusion was long overdue. With Smith stating “MIB 3” as his last appearance on the franchise, it is hard to see the producers to give up on him that early. Even if Smith does return back the main question is how his character will blend in with a female partner.
