“And So It Goes” Synopsis:
In the movie, Douglas plays Oren Little, a griping, self-centered, obnoxious and manipulative realtor who finds himself desperate as his life takes an unexpected turn for being in charge of a young granddaughter he never knew of until his estranged son leaves her at his home. Messed up and in badly need of a woman’s perspective, Oren turns to his neighbor, Leah, played by Keaton, for help. But Oren’s personality and word choices quickly put his social skills in question, drawing consistently Leah’s ire. He finds fault incessantly in parents only because of their children’s haircut, fires paintball at a dog that is about to answer the call of nature on his lawn and even tells an old friend she can die any moment because he found another one who likes him. Hence, Leah is in complete disgust with everything about Oren. The bickering continues between them, but eventually, they find each other’s soft spot and natural charm.
Douglas and Keaton have pretty much done it all, having professional acting experiences for decades. Each has been given the lead role in both dramas and comedies. Douglas has won four Golden Globes, two Academy Awards and an Emmy. Keaton has received an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Actress, and her films have earned a cumulative gross of over $1.1 billion in North America. But what they have not been given is the chance to work together until “And So It Goes.”
Moreover, the film reunites Douglas with Rob Reiner, the director of the movie, after working together in “The American President.” Riener, an American actor, director and producer, is also the director of germinal comedies such as “This is Spinal Tap” and “When Harry Met Sally.” As an actor, he has received two Emmy Awards during the 1970s.
For “And So It Goes,” Reiner puts aboard Oscar-nominated Mark Andrus to write the script. According to Yahoo! Movies, Douglas said that he can personally identify with the character who consequently gets in charge of his granddaughter because her father is sent to prison.
