Although Michael Fassbender has stated that he won’t be campaigning for an Oscar, especially after being snubbed for his role in Shame, the Irish actor has finally been recognized by the academy. He has been nominated for an Oscar making this nomination, his very first one (and hopefully with more to come).

Michael Fassbender

Fassbender has been nominated for best supporting actor for his role in the movie, 12 Years a Slave. The movie has seemed to turn more than a handful of heads as it has now been known to be very engaging, moving and emotional for the audience.

Apart from that, more Irish have taken the stage for award nominations this year as U2 has also been nominated for their song, Ordinary Love in Mandela: A Long Walk to Freedom.

The Irish band is expected to take this award home as well after winning at the Golden Globes for the same category.

Speaking of 12 Years a Slave, one other actress has taken the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 12 Years a Slave where she played as Patsey alongside Michael and she is, Lupita Nyong’O.
