Michael Jackson’s Thriller Makes A World Record With Sale of 30 Million Copies In The US
Michael Jackson, an all time favorite king of hearts, has added the latest feather to his cap; Jackson’s seminal album has reached the historic number of 30 million in the United States and therefore, it becomes the very first album in history to have achieved this target.
The announcement has been made by the Recording Industry Association of America and the Estate of Michael Jackson. As per the reports of RIAA, more than 100 million copies of the album have been sold globally. For almost 60 years for now, RIAA has awarded Gold and Platinum records carrying forward the legacy of music business.
Revealed by RIAA chairman and CEO Cary Sherman, this has been the very first time when 30X multi-Platinum plateau has been crossed by any artist. As per the CEO, this has been a miraculous testament and the greatest example set in the musical history.
“Thriller” has been on the billboard’s list for almost two-and-a-half years and on the top for 37 weeks. When talking about its awards nominations, in the year 1984, it was nominated for 12 Grammy awards. The album won 8 of them including the “Album of the Year” together with “Record of the Year” (for ‘Beat It’).
