Miss Universe 2015 Controversy: Miss Germany Says “None of us voted for Miss Philippines”
Miss Universe gets more interesting. As if the recent gaffe involving Steve Harvey’s moment of utter confusion that led him to naming the wrong Miss Universe contestant yesterday was not enough, it appears even other Miss Universe contestants were not happy with the actual results. Miss Germany Sarah-Lorraine Riek was quoted as saying, “None of us voted for Miss Philippines.”
Missosology correspondent Natalie Cruz caught up with Miss Germany-Universe Sarah Lorraine Riek right after the coronation to ask her about a video showing a few contestants gathering around Miss Colombia right after the crown was retaken. The video, posted on Missosology’s Facebook page, features some of the ladies showing their support for Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez. It was also an awkward moment for Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach, as she appeared to be wanting to get close to Gutierrez, only to be blocked by the other contestants. Thankfully, to avoid further embarrassment (because who knows what a bunch of deeply upset beauty pageant contestants might do?), a pageant stage organizer swooped right on time to lead Wurtzbach offstage and away from further infamy.
Riek said, “I couldn’t believe it. I was so upset because, for me, she was robbed. I was very happy for Colombia, actually. She really deserved it. But I’m very unhappy with the result and so were the other girls, I’m very sorry to say it.”
When asked how she would have handled the situation had she been in Gutierrez’s place, Riek said it would be the “most awful situation ever.”
“That would be a nightmare,” she said. “To get crowned Ms. Universe and for them to take away the crown, I feel so sorry for her (Gutierrez). But I would have passed the crown and would still be proud to represent my country.”
In the end, however, Riek did say that they were happy for Wurzbach and wished her a wonderful reign as Miss Universe 2015.
