Were you able to watch the Miss Universe 2015 coronation night a few hours ago? If you missed the drama-filled event, read on to know more!
Miss Universe 2015 is one of the trending topics on social media right now and so is Steve Harvey! Harvey hosted the event and broke the Internet when he unintentionally messed up the pageant’s finale. What did he do? He wrongly announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the new Miss Universe instead of Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
Almost three minutes after he made the announcement, Harvey came back on stage and apologized wholeheartedly for his “huge” mistake.
According to HollywoodLife.com, Miss Colombia laughed when Harvey revealed that he made a mistake. It seemed that she thought the comedian was going to make a joke. When Harvey declared Miss Philippines as the real winner, the camera quickly focused on her.
This is what Harvey said: “Listen folks, let me just take control of this. This is exactly what’s on the card. I will take responsibility for this. It was my mistake. It was on the card. Horrible mistake… but I can show it to you right here. It was my mistake. Still a great night. Please don’t hold it against the ladies. We feel so badly, but it’s still a great night.”
So, yes, Miss Colombia was de-crowned on live television. Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega took the crown, sash, and flowers away from Miss Colombia and gave them to Miss Philippines.
If you want to know how everything happened, watch the video below:
According to BBC, Miss Philippines told the reporters that she wishes Miss Colombia well. “I’m very sorry, I did not take the crown away from her and I wish her well in whatever she wants to pursue after this pageant,” she said.
On the other hand, Miss Colombia addressed some fans backstage and said, “Everything happens for a reason so I’m happy for all that I did.”
People from all over the world took to Twitter and Facebook to share their reactions on the crowning, de-crowning, and re-crowning moments.
A Filipino fan commented on Facebook: “Out Miss Philippines didn’t get her shining moment. It feels like she and our country were robbed of the winning moment, shame!”
A man named Pedro Da Cunha tweeted, “Don’t feel terrible. Everyone makes mistakes.”
At the end of the prestigious pageant, Miss Colombia got her shining moment for about two to three minutes. Also, Miss Philippines officially ended the 42-year Miss Universe title drought for her country. Lastly, Steve Harvey made history for botching the Miss Universe crowning.
