Miss World Contestant Anastasia Lin Denied Entry To Sanya By A Chinese Immigration Official
The Chinese-Canadian actress Anastasia Lin has been denied permission to enter China to compete in the Miss World beauty pageant. It seems that it happened in revenge for her comments on the country’s human rights record.
Anastasia Lin was to represent Canada at Miss World 2015 pageant to be held in China. According to CNBC, the Miss World contestant has been held on the Chinese tourist hotspot Sanya that had a different visa system. Lin, who flew from Canada to Hong Kong, was denied permission to board another plane to Sanya island in Hainan Province, by a Chinese immigration official.
“I have every right to be there to represent my country,” Lin said.
The Canadian actress of Chinese origin also revealed that she was trying to get the landing visa in Hainan, but was in vain. She further said that the Chinese immigration officials did not even give her an explanation for denying her visa.
It seems that the 25-year-old Lin was denied permission to enter China as a revenge for her comments on the country’s human rights record. China imprisons followers of Falun Gong, a spiritual exercise & meditation regime, without trial. Lin is actually a practitioner of Falun Gong.
Earlier in July, Lin commented to a U.S. Congress panel regarding the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
“I want people of the world, especially overseas Chinese, to really have the courage to speak their own mind,” stated the beauty pageant titleholder Lin.
The Miss World grand final would be held on Dec. 19 in China. It seems that Lin’s photo has been missing in the contestants list provided on the Miss World website, even though the actress’ name, as well as country, was present. Neither the Miss World organization nor the China’s Foreign Ministry responded to an emailed request.
Lin won the Miss World Canada beauty pageant in May, and now she has been denied a visa for entry to Sanya, and hence unable to participate in the final stage of the beauty competition, reported HNGN.
