USA Network’s “Mr. Robot” brings Swedish actor Martin Wallstrom aboard the hacker drama in what would be his first role on U.S. television. Read on for the details of the news story.

Stockholm-based actor Martin Wallstrom is joining the cast of “Mr. Robot.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, this would be the first appearance of the Swedish actor on American television, but he already has an accomplished filmography that includes starring in “Snabba Cash 3” and “Ego and Simple Simon,” which was actually shortlisted for an Oscar in the Best Foreign Film category in 2010.

Wallstrom is also a well-known TV actor in his homeland and has recently finished the series “The Hundred Code,” which he starred with Michael Nyqvist (“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”) and Dominic Monaghan (“Lost”).

On “Mr. Robot,” Wallstrom has actually landed the co-starring role opposite Rami Malek, who was first cast to the show in September, as we reported here. Wallstrom will play the role of Tyrell, a businessman who has aspirations of becoming the chief technology officer. He will join other actors like Portia Doubleday and Carly Chaikin who will be playing hackers and computer experts in the series.

“Mr. Robot” is from Universal Cable Productions with Sam Esmail writing the script. Steve Golin and Chad Hamilton from Anonymous Content are aboard the production as executive producers. Danish director Aden Oplev (“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”) is also aboard as the pilot’s director.

The show centers on the story of a young programmer and hacker (played by Malek) named Elliot who is deemed as an antisocial. He’s only able to connect with people by hacking into their internet profiles. Eventually, Elliot gets entangled with a group of anarchists that will be involved in one of the biggest hacking scandal to hit corporate America.

Production for “Mr. Robot” has yet to be announced, but the series has an intended debut for 2015 on USA Network.
