“Mr. Robot” Gets Early Second Season Renewal
In a surprise twist, according to a report on Deadline, just hours before the new hacker and thriller USA Network new show, “Mr. Robot” premiered at 10:00 PM on June 24, 2015, the series has already been renewed for a second season. Read on to learn more about this story.
“Mr. Robot”, a hacker thriller USA Network offering, has just barely begun its run, yet, according to Deadline, the thriller has already been picked up for a ten episode second season, and it looks like the early release of its pilot had something to do with this as well.
On May 27, 2015, in an attempt to spread more buzz about the upcoming drama, the network decided to release the hour long pilot episode on different platforms online, including the website of USA Network itself. Since then, according to the report, around 2.6 million have seen the pilot, and garnered the audience award at South by Southwest and was selected to be part of this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.
“Mr. Robot”, which stars Rami Malek and Christian Slater, centers around a cyber-security engineer by day, who moonlights as a vigilante hacker by night, named Elliot, who is portrayed by Rami Malek. Elliot, who sees the world as a place that is run and manipulated by the “top 1% of the 1%”, gets recruited by the mysterious and enigmatic titular character, portrayed by Christian Slater, to join a hacker group called fsociety whose goal is to take down the big conglomerates that Elliot believes controls the world. However, during the day, Elliot, probably one of the only ones in the world who knows what is going on, works, alongside best friend Angela Moss (Portia Doubleday) in a cyber-security company that answers to the very thing that he hates- the conglomerate he calls Evil Corp.
The network’s President, Chris Mc Cumber, explained to Deadline that the decision to already renew the show right before the pilot episode officially premiered on television was because of the positive response that the show had garnered during its trial run on May 27, and as the script and the actors have proved that this show is, well, one of a kind, indeed.
