Thanks to last week’s entry, viewers of USA Network’s astounding new summer show, “Mr. Robot,” left fans wanting more. They wondered and mulled all week over the revelation that the show left us- that Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) is, in fact, Elliot Alderson’s (Rami Malek) father.

The penultimate episode of the season allowed viewers and fans to learn more about Elliot, Mr. Robot, Tyrell Wellick (Martin Wallstrom), and the truth behind FSociety as a whole.

First off, the opening scene, which included a time-lapse sequence into the future, revealed that Elliot’s father, Edward Alderson (Christian Slater), owned a computer repair shop in the mid-‘90s called Mr. Robot, which, years later, became an Evil Corp bank.

At Elliot’s apartment, before leaving with Mr. Robot on a journey to discover the truth, and to recover his memories, Elliot learned that everyone, such as his therapist, didn’t want Elliot to work with Mr. Robot, and to push through with their plans at FSociety.

It was then revealed that Elliot dreaded going home to his mother as a child, as he had suffered some form of abuse from her.

After Darlene (Carly Chaiken) reached out to Angela Moss (Portia Doubleday) for help to find Elliot, Angela’s and Elliot’s hide out was revealed. Angela began to question what Darlene and Elliot had been doing together as of late, as it seemed as if Elliot’s behavior had become worse after Darlene returned to New York City.

At Elliot’s old home, Mr. Robot revealed to Elliot that Elliot himself had thrown himself out the window all those years ago. He couldn’t handle his guilt over revealing his father’s sickness to his mother.

Later, Angela and Darlene caught up with Elliot at the local cemetery. Mr. Robot told Elliot that he had to leave so that they wouldn’t kill him. He told him to remember that he would never leave him.

It was then revealed that Elliot was standing at his father’s tombstone and that he had been talking to himself all along.

He finally realized that he was, in fact, Mr. Robot. On the way home, Darlene revealed to him that he had founded FSociety.

Back at home, Angela was paid a surprise visit by Terry Colby (Bruce Altman), who offered her a job at Evil Corp. They had been impressed by her recent actions and reminded her that it would be easier for her to change things from within.

Later that night, after Darlene left to get his medication, Tyrell Wellick (Martin Wallstrom), who had just lost his job at Evil Corp. It meant that his wife would make good on his promise to leave him if he failed, and who made sure that AllSafe would be vulnerable for attack in the future, confronted Elliot about his plan. He had realized that Elliot had behind everything all along.

Elliot then took him to the arcade, where, in a moment of clarity, told Tyrell that he was working alone. He had encrypted all of Evil Corp’s financial records with a key that would self-destruct so that it would be untouchable; and that there would be no back- up copies, due his hack of Steel Mountain.

Elsewhere, it was discovered that Blank’s Disk burned down to the ground, thus erasing evidence of the hard drives that Elliot had delivered in the previous episode.

Of course, the viewers are led to presume that the Dark Army, who was supposed to hack China in order for FSociety’s grand plan to work.

According to Forbes’ interviews with Michael Bazzell, the technical consultant of the show, this is important as “China” refers to another “backup system based overseas.” It holds a backup of Evil Corp’s data, which is why their hack of that system and Elliot’s plans needed to be simultaneously done in order to truly crush Evil Corps.

As the season finale draws nearer, one must remember that this isn’t the end of the road for FSociety and Elliot. The series will be having a second season, and will probably deal more with the fallout of Elliot’s plans, as their plan comes closer and closer to fruition.
