Cousins was showing every sign of leaving the Sacramento Kings. He was acting like a diva and annoying everybody on the team. It would been really easy for Lakers to get him, but they resisted the trade.
It turns out that they would have had to trade their wild card Julius Randle and another rookie to get Cousins and they weren’t willing to do that. What is surprising is the fact that the “quick to trade” Lakers showed restraint on account of Cousins. After all, Cousins was the best center last season. Even more surprisingly, the guy they want to keep has been sitting out on account of a broken leg. Randle has only played one game last season and has been sitting on the bench ever since.
But wild cards have a way of turning the game. Especially if they are like Julius Randle who is still a player in development. The way the Lakers management see him, he shows some potential. They believe that they have a winner on their hands. Only time can tell if their belief shows promise, but for now, they are keeping Randle out of all the talks.
Let’s see how this plays out.
