NCIS Recap: No Good Deed

NCIS” Season 12 Episode 20 “No Good Deed” aired last Tuesday, Apr. 7, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. on CBS. In this episode, an investigation into the murder of a marine allowed NCIS Special Agent Anthony “Tony” DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) to work with his girlfriend, as a failed old Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) operation resurfaced. Meanwhile, at home, Tony dealt with another kind of problem- his father. Read on to learn more about this episode.

While doing community service as part of his sentence, a disgraced congressman alerted his supervisor to a dead man beside a fallen motorcycle just ahead of them.

At the office, NCIS Special Agent Timothy “Tim” McGee (Sean Murray) and NCIS Special Agent Eleanor “Ellie” Bishop (Emily Wickersham) found it strange that NCIS Special Agent Anthony “Tony” DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) was unusually cheerful. It was about the fact that his father was coming to town, and about the prospect that he wanted to meet Tony’s girlfriend, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) Agent Zoe Keates (Marisol Nichols).

At the crime scene, they discovered that the victim, who had been shot in the chest, was Marine Lance Corporal David Austin. He was heading towards Norfolk, where he was supposed to have arrived that morning. They were then interrupted by Anthony DiNozzo, Sr. (Robert Wagner), who asked his son for a key as he couldn’t enter Tony’s apartment.

At the laboratory, Forensic Specialist Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette) informed NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) that the slug recovered from Austin was from a pistol that was purchased by ATF in 2009 as part of a failed operation called “Fast and Furious. They sold ATF guns to dealers hoping that they would be able to trace it to several Mexican cartels. As they had failed, two thousand guns had gone missing, and only seven hundred had been recovered. Because of this, Zoe was assigned to help them, and Tony volunteered to partner up with her.

McGee and Ellie then discovered from Abby that whoever had shot Austin had done so while moving side by side with him. Even though there was a gas station two miles from where he was found, there was no fuel in tank, which was strange as he had no more gas. Because of this, Ellie and McGee managed to track down the security footage of the gas station where Austin had placed a cancelled transaction to refill his tank.

Meanwhile, Zoe told Tony that she would reach out to a mentor of hers who was in Arizona during the operation. However, Tony got an unpleasant surprise when he entered his apartment. He discovered that his father had rearranged his furniture and had almost burned down his kitchen again, which led to an argument which Zoe witnessed.

The next morning, Abby informed McGee and Ellie that Austin had been trying to be a good Samaritan. He had chased a car belonging to Jennifer Vickers (Myndy Cist), as a man had been driving the car with a young woman inside who had asked for help. Gibbs, who revealed that Senior had stayed at his place that night. Ellie met up with Jennifer, who told them that her daughter, Emma, a drug addict, was the girl in the car.

Meanwhile, McGee went to MTAC instead of Tony, to talk to Special Agent Phil Caffy (Randy Vasquez), Zoe’s mentor, who seemed reluctant in helping them out. Afterwards, Zoe became troubled. It was after discovering that Tony lied to her about not going up to MTAC as he had been worried about what had happened the other day.

At Gibbs’ house, Senior revealed to Gibbs that he had just wanted to tell Tony that he wanted to live nearer to him. They were then interrupted as Emma Vickers had been found dead in her mother’s car. She had died of a deliberate drug overdose, and the man in the car was identified as Jamie Rivers. He had been arrested by Caffy during Fast and Furious, but was now in the wind.

Afterwards, Gibbs told Tony what his father had told him. It led Tony to offer his help to find his father an apartment in the area. However, he became alarmed after his father told him that he was going to move into the apartment above him.

Zoe then got her informant to set up a meet in which McGee posed as the buyer. However, things went south quickly, which ended up in them shooting down Rivers, but they managed to get two guns used in Fast and Furious off the streets.

Afterwards, Zoe and Tony finally managed to have a serious conversation with each other, and Tony’s father realized that he shouldn’t live in his son’s building, and asked for help to find an apartment nearby, which Tony agreed to.
