Neil Patrick Harris: What He Has in Store for Oscars 2015
Oscars 2015 or the 87th Academy Awards will happen on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre. For this year, the grand event will be hosted by “How I Met Your Mother” star Neil Patrick Harris. Read on to find out what he has in store for the upcoming event.
According to LA Times, Harris was not originally the first choice to host the Oscars 2015. Among the choices include Ellen DeGeneres, who was responsible for the event’s best ratings in 2014; Julia Louis-Dreyfus; and Chris Rock. However, having hosted the Emmys twice and Tony Awards four times, Harris makes a good pick to lead this year’s much-awaited awarding event.
Billy Crystal, considered as an Oscar host master, expressed his admiration of Harris through a call from New York.
“He’s done some remarkable things on those shows. He’s ready. What I love about him is he’s fearless, he’s musical and he’s theatrical. He also has the mind’s eye of a producer, so he’ll think big,” said Crystal, as published on LA Times.
Harris has had his fair share of experience when it comes to hosting award shows. However, in the case of the Oscars, he told Melissa Rivers of Entertainment Tonight (ET) how it is a different beast.
“This is sort of the big gorilla. I think the preparation involves a little more second guessing,” Harris told ET.
Meanwhile, ABC News has summed up what people can expect from Harris in the upcoming Oscars 2015. The outlet mentioned of the actor’s great sense of humor, appropriate jokes (as confirmed by Harris in an interview with LA Times), dancing and singing, lots of experience to boot.
Harris reportedly reviewed his previous hosting gigs with the Emmys and Tonys and tried to find out what is left for him to do.
“There’s going to be a musical number at some point in the show. … I’m a magician, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a hint of magic. I fear I’ve said too much,” Harris further noted.
