New Girl Season 5 Cancelled? Fox Rumored To Axe Zooey Deschanel Series For Low Ratings

The latest season of “New Girl” hasn’t been scoring well in the ratings department as of late. Because of this, many fans can’t help but wonder if the series would be renewed or cancelled.

FOX TV has yet to release an official verdict on whether “New Girl” will be renewed for season 5. Despite its low ratings, Fox executives told Deadline that they remain optimistic of the show’s future. Chairman Dana Walden also added that the series “reinvigorated” this season 4.

“New Girl” season 4 premiere only received a 1.7 rating in adults 18-49

Meanwhile, although there’s still no official word on whether “New Girl” will be cancelled or renewed, Zooey Deschanel might have spilled a few beans on what to expect in season 5.

Speaking to Renew Cancel TV, Deschanel shared she might skip a few episodes because of her pregnancy.

“The show’s writers have come up a really funny/clever way to both explain Jess’ disappearance and ensure that she has a presence in every episode. And it’s not CGI. Nor is it a puppet,” she explained.

Too bad! We actually though that the baby will bring Nick and Jess back together. Unfortunately, Zooey’s pregnancy will not be written in the next episodes.

In another sad news, Damon Wayans Jr. recently announced that he will be leaving “New Girl” for the second time around. Wayans first joined the cast in 2011 but had to leave when “Happy Endings” was renewed for a second season. His character was replaced by Winston, played by Lamorne Morris. When the “Happy Endings” eventually got cancelled, he reprised his role as Coach in the Fox series.

“Working with this incredibly talented and funny cast and crew has been one of the best experiences of my career,” Wayans said.
