New and Old Faces and More Drama in Store for ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Season 17
In less than a week, the long-running procedural, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” will return with more cases to solve, and with more drama, as this upcoming season, aside from the many changes that it is already facing, will delve a little bit more into the family life of Detective Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish). Aside from this, several notable guest stars, and returning guest stars will be featured in the upcoming season, along with some pretty relevant stories that are in line with the show’s “ripped from the headlines” format.WARNING: This article will contain spoilers on the seventeenth season of NBC’s long-running Dick Wolf procedural, “Law & Order: SVU”. Read on to learn more about the new and old faces that one will see during the upcoming season, and to learn more about the interesting stories and cases that will be tackled.
According to an exclusive report on The Hollywood Reporter, fans of the series, and of Detective Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish), will learn a little bit more about the detective. Her mother, Beth Anne Rollins (Virginia Madsen) will be rolling into town for an episode that will focus on Amanda. Aside from her mother, viewers will also see the return of Amanda’s manipulative and troubled sister, Kim (Lindsay Pulsipher), who got Amanda into a lot of trouble the last time she was in town.
Viewers should expect the episode in which the two will guest star in to be quite emotional, given the Rollins family history. Beth Anne favors Kim over Amanda, whom she feels has abandoned their family.
Aside from this, E! News has just reported that the iconic Whoopi Goldberg will be guest starring in an episode sometime in October. A Department of Child Services supervisor who comes under fire after it is discovered that she has been mishandling reports.
Fans and long-time viewers of the long-running show will also see the return of Peter Gallagher’s Chief Dodds. He will be implementing some changes within the Special Victims Unit Department, and the return of Tamara Tunie, who will, once again, portray Dr. Warner.
E! News also added that aside from the supersized premiere episode. It is reminiscent of the recent Robert Durst case featuring the serial killer Dr. Yates, from the crossover episode between “Law & Order: SVU” and “Chicago PD”, this upcoming season will also tackle recent issues such as a case involving a transgendered teenager.
