New ‘Star Wars’ Movie Expected To Gross About $2.2 Billion Globally
Fans of the “Star Wars” film franchise are already having high expectations with the upcoming series, which is expected to bring in a lot for the makers, and has been estimated to rake in about $2.2 billion. According to Stifel analysts Kevin Lee Hon Siong and Benjamin Mogil, Star Wars could gross about $2.2 billion worldwide.
The high estimated grossing for the movie is expected to ride on the increasing numbers of screening across the globe. As per Mogil and Siong, the movie will be boosted by the number of IMAX screens that has been increased to nearly double, and also the number of 3D screens that has recorded a quadruple increase since 2009. In addition, international markets like Latin America, Russia and China have witnessed an encouraging screening growth in the recent times.
Mogil and Siong added that an inverse correlation is seen in the performance at the Chinese box office from the release date duration between the Chinese and the global datas due to piracy.
The new movie “The Force Awakens,” which is being produced by the Disney’s subsidiary Lucasfilm, is set to hit the theatres on December 18.
Meanwhile, as fans of the “Star Wars” film franchise count down the days until its release, speculations and rumors have begun to surface regarding the new backstory of Han Solo and Chewbacca. These rumors have gone rampant, especially as the “Star Wars” Extended Universe. It had expanded on what happened to Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia Organa after the events of “Star Wars: Episode VI-The Return of the Jedi,” were officially no longer listed as canon for the “Star Wars” franchise, and as little tidbits and hints of the official canon are slowly being revealed in the films, new books, and ongoing MARVEL “Star Wars” titles.
