Nikki Reed Plans on Taking Ian Somerhalder’s Name After Marriage

As they start preparing for their special day, Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder have apparently started talks on important details after their marriage, like in Reed’s case, finally taking in Somerhalder’s name.

After six months of dating, Somerhalder and Reed have joined the list of celebrity couples about to walk down the aisle soon. Along with sending their congratulations for the couple, fans speculated as to whether Reed would take on Somerhalder’s name upon their marriage or keep her name as it is as is common among most married female celebrities.

The questions rose up when Somerhalder posted a photo on Instagram on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015 showing the horse collars of his and Reed’s horses.

Apparently, the horses’ names were written on the collars, and both Eagle and Millie bore the last name “Reed-Somerhalder.” Could we take this a hint that Reed is planning on taking Somerhalder’s name as soon as they get married?

“[Nikki] will be taking Ian’s name and it will be with the hyphen. It is important to him for her to take his name and she is looking forward to adding his name and making it her official name once they get married. They had a conversation about it and decided that is what they will do when they get married,” a source told

Wow, that sounds sweet. In a way, this could mean that with their marriage, she seals the fact that belongs to Somerhalder fully.

Now, along with talks of marriage also came along questions of possibly raising kids soon. And the source said that the two are very much in love and have already planned on having children soon. Apparently, they’d like to have lots of children and even want to start getting to it this year!
