No Paul Walker in ‘Fast and Furious 8’; But Jason Statham Will Return

Fans of the seemingly endless “Fast and Furious” franchise had some big news coming to them this week as the producer for “Fast and Furious 8” confirmed that Paul Walker will no longer be reanimated via CGI. Read on to find out more.

In an interview with Screen Rant earlier this week, “Fast and the Furious” producer Neal H. Moritz revealed that Paul Walker’s character can finally enjoy some well-deserved rest. “We don’t have Paul anymore. His character… has moved on. But we feel like there’s a lot still to be mined. That’s where we’re starting. We’re really talking about the characters, where they all sit right now. It’s a huge challenge,” he said.

Walker’s tragic death complicated shooting for “Furious 7;” however, clever computer generated animation has ensured that the character remains alive in the franchise with the help of his brother, Cody, though Brian O’Conner is no longer returning for “Furious 8.”

Jason Statham, though, is returning to the movie as he confirmed in a recent interview with MailOnline. Although the story for “Fast & Furious 8” is still being kept under wraps, Statham has hinted at some “great stuff” for the next film. He could not however, remember the name of his screen writer accidentally referring to Gary Scott Thompson as Glenn. Rumors are rife whether Statham’s character ‘Shaw’ will remain the antagonist in this movie or if he will join Dom’s (Vin Diesel) crew.

Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Dwayne Johnson are also reprising their characters as further casting continues. Diesel has dedicated “Fast and Furious 8”  to Walker claiming that while “Furious 7 was for Paul, FF8 is from Paul.”

In the meantime, “Furious 7,” which grossed $1.5 billion worldwide, remains the most successful film in the series. The movies have become Universals biggest franchise as of 2015, and two more sequels have been planned.

“Fast and Furious 8” will be released on April 14, 2017.
