“Nurse Jackie” has finally come to an end after seven seasons on TV in the finale episode titled, “I Say A Little Prayer,” which aired on Sunday, June 28. While the penultimate episode of the Showtime series showed Jackie’s (Edie Falco) return to All Saints after retrieving her license back, it seems like Jackie went through yet another downfall.
The Season 7 finale of “Nurse Jackie” showed Jackie snorting a homeless patient’s stash of heroin, as she tries to bid the hospital goodbye. Jackie then heads off to a happy place in her mind and passes out on the floor of the hospital.
Zoey (Merritt Wever) and Eddie (Paul Schulze) see Jackie on the floor and run to her. Zoey calls for help as they try to revive her. Jackie eventually wakes up and sees Zoey, who tells her that she’s good and everyone is gathered around her. The screen fades to black.
“Nurse Jackie” Season 7 finale has left many fans wondering if Jackie lives on or if she died after the screen faded to black. Showrunner Clyde Phillips told E! News that the scene was done in order to “end the show with authenticity.”
The showrunner explained that the cast and crew of “Nurse Jackie” wanted their viewers to feel compassion for its characters and the stories that each and every character holds.
Phillips also explained that in his own point of view, Jackie lives on but she will be facing the consequences of doing something that she’s supposed to avoid for the rest of her life.
“If she’s alive, she’s certainly going to lose her job. She’s either going to get clean or not… You don’t get cured of being an addict; you just stop using for as long as you can,” he said.
