One Direction wins Big at the American Music Awards
This could definitely prove to be a nice going away gift for the boys at One Direction as just before their hiatus they have struck gold at the AMA. The popular boy band won the most coveted prize of “Artist of the Year” at the event yet again for the second year in a row.
According to The Guardian, One Direction took away the prize second year in a row after having beaten the likes of Luke Bryan, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift and Maroon 5. Apart from winning the most coveted prize, the band also won another award in the favorite pop/rock group.
Despite their win it should be noted that a visible absent Taylor Swift won three major awards in the best song and album category for “1989” and “Bad Blood.” Fans of other artistes shouldn’t feel disheartened as Ariana Grande surprisingly beat Taylor Swift in the category of Female Artist of the year. She herself seems to have been a bit surprised and thanked her grandmother while receiving the award.
Undoubtedly, the big surprise at the event was Harrison Ford when he appeared on stage to introduce a cappella group with the name of Pentatonix. With Han Solo himself present at the event, there was no way a clip of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” wouldn’t be shown. As it turned out a little clip from the movie was shown before the a cappella group performed some tracks from the movie.
Mirror added the entire list of winners along with “Suicide Squad” star Jared Leto’s emotional tribute to the victims of Paris attacks that left 130 people dead. It is being said that his performance was specifically for the 89 people who died at the Bataclan concert where he and his band had performed a peaceful show this year. The media outlet too pointed out that in a way Taylor Swift was the biggest achiever as she swept six nominations winning three out of those.
