Oprah Winfrey Clarifies On ‘Secret Son’ Controversy
Oprah Winfrey was recently mired in controversy when it was revealed that she has a “secret son.” In a recent news from VC Post, Oprah revealed that the boy was not her son and it was just a case of philanthropy gone wrong. Read On!
Oprah Winfrey never really had a son. She was just being kind to the boy in question, Calvin Mitchell. She had met Calvin Mitchell on the sets of “There Are No Children Here” way back in 1992. The boy had charmed Oprah with his friendly nature and had confessed to being broke. He had snuck up to Oprah and handed her a soda and had instantly hit the right note with Oprah. Oprah had been so taken by the boy that she asked him about his family and his living circumstances.
When she asked him about school, he confessed that his mother didn’t have enough money to send him to school. Instantly, Oprah’s heart melted for the child and she ordered her partner Stedman Graham to give the boy’s mother a job. She also arranged for the boy to go to a decent school.
The boy might have had a winsome personality but he was extremely lazy. He failed to attend school at times because he claimed that he didn’t have any clocks in his house. When Oprah finally bought him a clock, he failed to attend the school still and was eventually expelled.
She eventually decided to give him another chance, and sent him off to a boarding school in Mississippi. She had this theory about him that removing him from the environment he was in will make him do better at school. He still refused to learn and grow, complaining that his teachers did not like him enough.
Oprah finally gave up on the kid and declared that she had done the best for him. She had tried to give him an education and he had still refused to do better. Oprah stopped all conversations with the boy after that point.

She eventually mused, “It isn’t enough to give a person a new life or money or a new car, you have to teach them how to fish themselves.”
So that, my friends, is the story of Oprah Winfrey’s secret son. It looks like a storm was brewing in the proverbial teacup and it just blew over eventually.
