Oscar Isaac Confirms Apocalypse Role in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’
Oscar Isaac is reported to be playing the role of titular villain Apocalypse in the latest installment of the "X-Men" franchise, “X-Men: Apocalypse.” Read on for further details.
“The first comic I ever collected was X-Factor, so I read that story, with Archangel and Apocalypse. I was also obsessed with the Book of Revelation a bit, I was a weird kid, so anything that referenced the second coming, or the rapture, or anything like that…So I was really into Apocalypse, so when I found out they were interested in me for it, I was really excited about it,” said Isaac on an interview with MTV, revealing that he was a big fan of the comic book franchise.
Isaac, who also plays a role in JJ Abram’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” will be playing En Sabah Nur or Apocalypse. Heralded as “the first one,” Apocalypse is one of the very first mutants who was born in the age of ancient pharaohs in Egypt. He is both thousands of years old and a monstrous tyrant that has been a longtime foe of the X-Men. He believes that only the strongest, whether mutant or superhuman, should survive. He is the master of the Four Horsemen, of which has made several incarnations within the comic books consisting of mutants and nonmutants alike.
Following the events of "Future Past," "Apocalypse's" time line has been reset. The film, which is reported to be set in the 1980s will see the return of James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto) and Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), along with the younger versions of the classic X-Men characters who were featured in previous titles. Lupita Nyong'o is rumored to play Storm, Jean Grey is reported to be played by a recognizable name while Cyclops will most likely be played by an up-and-comer.
The pic will focus on the origins of the mutants and will complete a trilogy that began with “X-Men: First Class.” The pic's main baddies are assumed to be Apocalypse or his four horsemen, which were featured in the post-credit scenes of “Days of Future Past.”
Filming will begin in April 2015 in Montreal, where “ X-Men: Days of Future Past” was also shot, with writer and helmer Bryan Singer returning to direct. “X-Men: Apocalypse” will hit the big screens on May 27, 2016, occupying the same Memorial Day slot for “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” It will be facing off against Disney’s planned “Alice in Wonderland 2,” similarly how “Days of Future Past” squared off against Disney’s “Maleficent.” The upcoming film will be directed by Bryan Singer from a script penned by Mike Dougherty, Dan Harris and Simon Kinberg.
