‘Out of the Dark’ starring Julia Stiles to Premiere in U.S.

Vertical Entertainment will head the upcoming U.S. distribution of the supernatural horror “Out of the Dark.” Read on to learn more about this movie update.

According to Deadline, Vertical Entertainment has gotten the rights to distribute the supernatural horror starring Scott Speedman, Stephen Rea and Julia Stiles from Participant. There is still no news on its premiere date, but the studio  is looking forward to a February release.


The film follows a South American family whose normal way of life changes into a terrifying one as they moved into a haunted house where they must face with the dark secrets and legends about their new house from its mysterious homeowners. 

“Out of the Dark” is presented by the studio alongside Participant and Image Nation.  Filming took place on location in Colombia and is a Spanish-Colombian co-production. It is produced by Cactus Flower, Fast Producciones and Apaches Entertainment with XYZ Films and Dynamo. It is Dynamo’s first English-language production. The deal was made by Vertical’s Peter Jarowey and Rich Goldberg with Participant’s Jeff Ivers XYZ Films’ Nate Bolotin. Bloom is set to handle international sales.

Julia Stiles first gained prominence for her lead roles in teen films such as “10 Things I Hate About You”, “Down to You” and Save the Last Dance.  Her career progressed when she starred in films “The Business of Strangers”, “Mona Lisa Smile” and “The Omen.” She also played the supporting character Nicky Parsons in the Bourne film series.

She guest starred as Lumen Pierce in the fifth season of the Showtime series “Dexter,” which earned her an Emmy and Golden Globe nomination. Her most recent film appearance is in the “Silver Linings Playbook” as a supporting role.

“Out of the Dark” is produced by Belen Atienza, Cristian Conti, Enrique Lopez Lavigne and Andres Calderon with Jeff Skoll, Jonathan King, Roy Azout, and Nick Spicer aboard as executive producers. The independent film is directed by helmer Lluis Quilez based on a screenplay from scribes Alex Pastor & David Pastor and Javier Gullón.
